Activision and Marvel announced today a new superhero game entitled X-Men: Destiny is currently in development over at Too Human studio Silicon Knights, and is scheduled for release sometime in fall 2011.
The only details we have of the new title is that it will feature a “rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny,” and it features an original storyline created by X-Men: Legacy scribe Mike Carey.
Activision is currently showing off the game at New York Comic-Con, so expect more details soon. In the meantime, here's the debut trailer, via IGN:

i hope its a sandbox with night and day you no like the recent spidey games you get to create your own dude and his powers and you can get invites to like the brotherhood or the x-men or just freelance and rob banks or save them and interact with the original people like wolverine and maybe they should make another genration if they could do all of that plus a good story and an complex universe then it would beat batman archam by a mile o and missions were you can go stealthy guns blazing or something in the middle o and stuff with guns and weapons or something like that then i will be the happiest nerd alive

If its not based off a movie it should be decent but then again they have even failed to do stuff right thats not based off a movie. Who knows?

I'm actually really excited about this one given that the past x-men games have been crap i.ve got a good feeling about this mainly because of the mass effect element that's supposed to be in the game, little sad there wasn't a video let's hope the new york comic con delevers.

I'm actually pretty excited about this game. None of these characters have really been used correctly in a game, in my opinion. Wolverine came the closest, but I hope this game feels bigger and more epic. I think open worlds are best for superhero games. I just wish developers could put more destruction in superhero games. Something like Geo-Mod 2.5 would be awesome in a Marvel game.

it would b nice if you could create yur own mutant and go explore the world and come back 2 the x mansion to check up on how things are or if the other mutants have created new tec or went on any missions while you were away.add locations like citys you could explore like new york and make the fights intense like you get hit really hard and go flying through some buldings

It's cool that it's working along the lines of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" but it's hard to say now what it will really be like. Too Human was great in concept, but it fell far short of the hype. And it's being published by Activision, so it's already not a Day 1 buy for me. But a Mass Effect-y X-Men game? That is kinda sweet.

This, the new Captain America game and (to a lesser extent) shattered dimensions. Good to see that publishers have begun to learn from Arkham Asylum's success that comic book games can make more money of their own accord, rather than as weak movie tie-ins.

I'm such of fan of comics, just the ability to control my favorite characters is enough for me to buy the game. I'm glad this is going to be a Xmen game, and not an all-star cast of Marvel superheroes like Ultimate Alliance. I've had that game since release, and there are still a few heroes I never even bothered to use in the game. Since Silicon Knights is making the game, I'm hoping it will look a lot better then Too Human. Great game, but the graphics made me feel like I was playing a original Xbox game. I guess we'll know more after New York comic con.
