A brief addendum to the controversy surrounding Electronic Arts' shooter Medal of Honor: Game-hating activist Jack Thompson has claimed victory. Here's Thompson's quote, from gaming site RipTen:
"I win again, as usual. Any gamers who don’t think so and who don’t appreciate what I do to protect our culture can go to Hell... Any gamers that don’t know how to get to Hell on an expedited basis, let me know, and I’ll send along the cheat code to get there more quickly."
I would think EA was probably more concerned about the opposition of Liam Fox, the U.K. defense minister, or the fact that the military plans to ban the game from on-base stores, but I guess it was Thompson all along. (I'd like those cheat codes anyway, please.)
Thompson's involvement in the matter consists of a letter he wrote to Robert Gates, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, which reads, in part:
"With all respect for everything else on your plate, but as someone who has represented the surviving family members of such video game-caused massacres, I personally urge you, as Secretary of Defense, to do what is necessary, proper, and legal to stop the release of Medal of Honor on October 12 on the basis that it poses a demonstrable danger to our troops by providing a training tool for those who wish to kill them."
All of which leads to a question: Should TheFeed keep reporting on the things that Jack Thompson says and does?
Personally, I think we should. I like the guy; his statements are always good for a laugh, and he embodies, to me, the out-there opinions of the game-hating segments of our population. But if you disagree, and find Thompson irrelevant and annoying, let us know.

i love how all these people say stuff about games that they have no idea about. you play as the Taliban only in the multi player, Jesus Christ this guy needs to research this stuff before he goes around saying all of this, according to Jack Thompson anything that happens in a game kids repeat in real life. stop thinking that kids are some sponges that do everything they see being done. @ Kendei you have to remember the difference to see why nut jobs like Thompson fly off the handle.
Full Metal Jacket can be considered an anti-war movie but it was still an American war movie. The heroes were Americans, the horror was seen from an American point of view, and the easily brain washed viewer would associate the experience from the point of view of Joker... Not any of the Communists who were killing Americans during that war.
People like Jack Thompson have so little faith in all humans, they they believe if you play video game that puts you in the shoes of a terrorist (or any other potentially violent character) that you will lose touch with reality, forget your morals, and be brain washed into a violent threat to other normal humans.
It's a subtle difference in opinions but it is a difference and to stay well armed/prepared to defend against such weirdos as Jack, it's important to keep the details right so you know where his delusions come from.

I guess I'm off to Hell cause I didn't agree with this old b1tch. I thought I was a productive member of society who was very kind and courteous to people. I thought the beauty of America was that we have all kinds of freedoms that allow us to be as creative as we want and to criticize those freedoms. He can talk all he wants about how he hates video games, but when you start to tell those who disagree with you to go to hell, you've lost any small amount of credibility you may have had.

Man, a "training tool" to kill soldiers? Are you serious? ANY FPS game could be considered a training tool. Now EA is going all Harry Potter on us and won't use the name "Taliban" as the enemy force. What a joke. Video games are a form of media....they don't teach us how to use guns...they teach us to hit buttons and perhaps a little tangential learning. War is not pretty. When someone dies hello kitty doesn't pop up with sprinkles and glitter. So its ok for a movie about war to be potrayed and people say its a GREAT movie(Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down...etc.). Do they say Nazi or "opposing forces" in those movies? We all KNOW they're the taliban in the game..changing the name is pointless. I'm on the fence about MOH anyway and this crap annoys me. Actually my friend put a game on my computer call "I'm OK" that spoofs Thompson. A father's soon is killed by another person and as the father leaves the courtroom Jack "offson" tells the father that video games killed his soon and then the father goes on a murder spree through several levels including a developers building and even a boss battle with a guy on a DDR pad(a "murder simulator" according to Offson). Now that I see this that game emulates Mr. Thompson perfectly.

This guy takes himself way too serious. He sounds like a 10 year old having a tantrum when he talks about gamers. Apparently all the comments by gamers towards Thompson are working since he acts like a troll who got owned all day in a forum. LOL But seriously, all the game companies will put a big target on his fat ass now that hes opened his mouth and crossed the line. Expect some heat from game lobbyists at this point.
