Well the cat's out of the bag. We now know that the Nintendo 3DS will be out in March of 2011 and will most likely cost around 300 bucks. While there's no official announcement from Nintendo about the exact date or a solid price point, these things can be determined from the little information we have already. Is that an acceptable launch window/price? Will you be picking one up on day one? Or do you expect there to be a newer, better version of the 3DS every year, like the old DS? Check out what Adam has to say on the subject and let us know what you think.

Here's the way I see it: I can buy a brand new Xbox 360 with 250GB Hard Drive for $299.99. And besides, most of the DS games haven't really intrigued me enough to buy more. I can't even tell you the last time I bought a DS game and I still own the original DS, just never use it.
A handheld thats only real special attribute is something that most gamers aren't really jumping the bandwagon on. 3D to me is boring, why spend over $100 or more per item just to get in 3D? I'm not just talking about the 3DS here but all 3D items in general.
To me, just doesn't make sense to pay almost $300 for a handheld device in which they will probably make a better version the next year that's slimmer with a wider screen and more internal memory.
I don't care if Japanese are willing to pay more and if that is just the price in Japan and not the United States; This product should not exceed the price of $150.

Lets not forget it is not JUST $300 plus tax, it is $300 plus tax PLUS whatever game (most people are going to want at least 2 games at launch) you buy so in all likelihood you are looking at about $400. Wow, that is a hefty chunk of cash.

Ouch.....$300 dollars for the 3DS, eh? Hopefully Nintendo of America will price it better in North America or my 3DS purchase and StarFox64 3D will just have to wait :-(.
silentshadow867
The fact that for the same price I can get a 360 (which I have yet to get because of money issues) makes it a no go for me. As a gamer, I am obligated to eventually give in and buy a 360 when I get enough money over a handheld device. Gaming is too god damn expensive in general! I guess, if you compare the 3DS to similar devices and add the fact that it does something that no other device can do, it is reasonably priced for now. *Sigh* I need a better job... Damn you college for stealing my money and time.
Bacbi
I feel like I have to buy it, but I'm haveing a problem faceing the fact that if it costs 300$ in the US it's gonna cost 400-450 in Europe.
bluewolf85
just wait until March 2011.. they will tell you how much for 3DS...
don't worry about cost..... Just wait....
Darkpuppy
Wow that's expensive, even more so because there are going to be the 3D tv's coming out soon that don't need glasses.
Also does anyone know the name of the game to the right of Adam? looks rather fun.
Cheers

10% of Americans own a Nintendo DS of some kind. Something tells me at least a few of those guys are gonna fork over some cash for a 3D effin version of that!!! Glasses free?! Updated graphics?!More online capabilities! This thing sells itself at ANY price.
Tmidiman
Wii sales are down, Nintendo needs to make more money to keep investors happy, and you know you can't wait a year for the price to go down. Deal.
MartiansfromUranus
It is pretty steep. The Wii was only $250 at launch.
Prax150
Mark my words: The 3DS is going to be a major bust. People are setting their expectations way too high for basically the equivalent of 3D TVs for gaming.
CLUNGEHUNTERPJ
doesn't matter what it costs, this thing's gonna sell like hotcakes
phillythakidd
My nintendo wii hardly gets played (unless friends come over or my son actually pays attention to it) Its just seems to me that nintendo now thinks with the success of their handhelds and the wii that they can charge anything and people will buy it. Honestly i cant see paying 300 dollars for a device like this, its embarrassing to pullout of your pocket in public, alot of the games will have to be sifted through to find the gold from the crap, and beyond 1st party games and a few hits, i guarantee that you will be hard pressed at launch to find many good titles. This in my opinion will lead to fail fail fail, but its nintendo so you can never count them out
ZyloWolfBane
Anything priced above the Wii is already too high of a price, we already know nintendo has a bad habit of passing the high cost of their gambles with new technology onto the consumer, and then not making good use of it.
I already never use my Wii, and titles for the DS have been pretty seldom lately...I'll not be suckered into an early adoption with this one, I got lucky with the DS Lite and screwed with the Wii, I dont plan to gamble with them again.
POTATOjim
I am personally very excited for the 3DS. I have no doubts in my mind that it will be good and like any video game I am excited for I really want to get it at launch. However, considering the steep price and the inevitable upgrade to the original model i think i may have learned my lesson with buying nintendo handhelds at launch.
But, having said that, I'm not always a fan of the "upgraded" versions of the consoles. After all I am still very content with my launch day Nintendo DS silver brick as well as the original gameboy advanced.
I guess I'll decide when the time comes but something tells me I'll just give in and buy the freaking thing launch day :P
Admiral_Ackbar
I am very excited about the 3DS, but am a little scared that 6 months down the road they will come up with a 3DS Lite xL, and I will be stuck. The DS was over 100 bucks less so it wasn't as bad when I had to upgrade to a DS Lite, but if I drop 250-300 on a 3DS I want it to be incirculation for longer than the other Nintendo handhelds recently. I am sure I will get one at lainch. but I am very worried about it becoming a second tier model too soon. Also I am curious how much the games will cost? Hopefully they stay the same as they are on DS, I really don't want to pay %50 for a game.
Looks like Nintendo has learned a lesson from the Wii. Theu easily could have sold those for $300 and had it be just as popular. So now they figure start high and work your way down.
KilledFirst
Enough people posting either forgot or never read about Sony dropping the cost of the PS3 in the Japanese market while maintaining the same price point in all other markets. I don't remember the actual bottom line but it was between $50-$100 U.S. dollars less then what everyone else was paying. Since the price drop the PS3 had last year, we are on a level playing field world-wide for the PS3 pricing. To assume or believe that Nintendo would maintain a higher price-point in a limited market that is Japan, you are a fool. I wouldn't be surprised to see a higher price-tag for both North American, and European markets. Considering the tech involved $300.00 is a fair price. If you don't like it just don't buy it till the price is affordable to you.
Kensan_Oni
Yeah, We are probably looking at 60 dollars before tariffs. We are probably looking at a 80 dollar sales price once it hits the states, which is reasonable, although still hefty for a hand held device to be given to children.
macross2012
Dieing to get the new 3Ds but not at a 300.00 price tag.. Its not a PSP with amazing graphics. I thought the DSI XL was pricey at 200.00.. But another 100.00 on top of that.. NO THANKS
