Five Cities Fallout 4 Should Visit

By now you've seen our exclusive Fallout: New Vegas video, and while you're chewing that bloody episode over in your head, check out where we think Fallout should head after cashing out in New Vegas.

Fallout has existed in the wastelands of Southern California, the blasted remains of Washington, D.C., and now on the rebuilt scraps of Las Vegas, born again from the ashes in the bright lights and clinking slot machines of New Vegas. We've seen both coasts of North America, its Sin City playground, and even Pittsburgh and Anchorage, Alaska via DLC ... but what about the rest of the world?

Five Cities Fallout 4 Should Visit

Tokyo

The Land of the Rising Sun is a perfect place to take the vault-dwelling franchise. Especially because of its dense population and the obsession with gadgetry. Not to mention all the noodle stands, arcades, pachinko machines, and karaoke bars. Imagine a high-tech, secret Japanese vault drilled deep into the face of the planet, quietly waiting to be awoken when the time was right. Given China's involvement in the series of events that led to the devastation on the surface, Japan just feels right. Why wouldn't they be involved somehow?

Of course, with all the beeping, blooping lights, and the reliance on circuitry instead of human know-how, something goes wrong. That's where you get ejected from the vault, and have to navigate the choked streets of Shinjuku, looking for a desperate solution to save the rest of the populace from the ticking time-bomb that your vault has turned into. Plus, there has to be room for a Mutant or Mecha Godzilla in here somewhere. It is the apocalypse, after all, and this is the sort of atomic-age stuff the city lives for. After spending plenty of time being lost on these very streets, and perplexed by the labyrinthine layout of the city, Tokyo deserves to be on the Fallout map.

The Outback

Secretly, quietly, and out of the prying eyes of most of the public, a gigantic bio-dome was created smack dab in the middle of the Outback. As part of a hushed up, multi-national plan, Ayer's Rock was hollowed out and turned into an enormous bio-habitat meant to become the last vestiges of life as we know it. Every species of animal, breed of fish, and type of plant would be housed inside, meant to be a living vault for when the surface could be repopulated again. A select group of scientists, athletes, artists, celebrities, and wealthy people were sent inside before the door was sealed, unknowingly creating an automatic sort of "Apocalyptic Survivor" episode inside.

As the years pass, and personalities devolve, things get worse and worse on the inside. Of course, things aren't going much better on the outside, but no one knows that because they are completely cut off from outside influences. After twenty years have passed, the inside group divides into factions, with half of the group wanting to break out and abandon the experiment. Upon successfully breaching the enormous door, they stumble out blinking into ... a post-apocalyptic world in the Australian Outback. The hazy, overcast skies have played with the ecosphere of Oz, and what was once a sun-blasted wasteland is now a dense overgrowth of bizarre plants: a hybrid of the multiple samples in the dome that leaked beneath the surface. Can you survive in the mutant kangaroos?

London

If you've ever seen Children of Men, then you know that the British government is set to soldier on through the end times of the world. It only feels natural that this should apply to a the post apocalypse as well. There's no reason to leave London out of things, especially when you consider how tightly the United Kingdom always seems to come together during a crisis. Remember all of the actual fallout shelters built during WWII, and how there was the extended Blitz of Britain? Nearly nine continuous months of bombings did nothing more than strengthen the country's resolve.

But deep beneath the London tube system, farther down than the most rat-infested sewer systems lies: the British Vault Project. Originally intended to be part of the larger vault system in the United States, Britain's government quickly took over the control and installation of their own series of vaults, hiding them beneath existing public works excavations and projects so as to hide their construction. But due to tax cuts and setbacks, as the bombs start falling, they aren't complete yet. You have to scramble to find the last partially operational vault, and seal yourself inside while Big Ben collapses and Parliament explodes around you. Hidden beneath Trafalgar Square, you'll find that getting in is just as hard as getting out.

The Amazon

Nearly every Fallout game has been set in a war-blasted zone where many of the standing structures have been reduced to ruin and rubble. Naturally, you wouldn't expect any of the biologic, chlorophyll-fueled life forms to survive, but that's where things flourished deep in the Amazon. You've been revived inside of Vault 76, buried under the city of Austin, Texas, and as you begin making your way through the rubble and exploring the city, you're quickly scooped up by a roving band of survivors who are making a trip down deep inside of what was once Brazil, looking for a mysterious, long-rumored vault that was built near the Amazon river.

No one knows exactly what this vault holds, only that there are several different groups set on finding it first. Bigger in scale than any Fallout game before, the game requires you to, first, gather the rest of your ragtag team, then get yourself down to the Amazon while staying alive; not an easy task. Once you're deep inside the rainforest, which has since been irradiated and turned into a botanist's ultimate nightmare, then the real trouble begins. If you thought Super Mutants were tough, wait until you come across a shambling, self-aware canopy tree. Remember all the hairspray you used to expend into the atmosphere without a care in the world? Well, payback is a real bitch. From the lush green foliage to the cavernous dried-up Amazon riverbed, experience Fallout like you've never seen it before.

The Dark Side of the Moon

Fallout has always been terrestrially based, unless you count the all-too-brief Mothership Zeta DLC for Fallout 3. But that doesn't mean that there weren't secret government projects going on in the background that we knew nothing about. The staggeringly bizarre amount of experimental Vaults tells us that much. So why not a Moonbase Vault on the other side of the Moon? It would be extremely easy to hide an entire Vault-sized construction underneath the guise of "experimental space flights" and "moon rock gathering". The problem is that once you get revived in this vault, stepping outside really isn't an easy option. Or even a good idea.

Somehow you have to figure out how to organize your quickly dwindling supplies, and explore your own vault as you piece together a way to return to the surface. You'll have to keep an eye on oxygen levels, and find a way to get through the airlock and survive on the surface as you look for clues and answers. There are several different ways to leave the moon, and ultimately to link up with the capital wasteland, but they are not going to be easy to find. As the space madness begins to set in, you'll realize why being alone and far from the remains of the human race can drive someone to psychopathic means. Think Duncan Jones' Moon crossed with Sunshine and the best parts of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Oh, and Alien, for good measure. In space, no one can hear you scream. But in that vault they sure can, and you'll be doing it a lot.

And just in case you missed it, be sure to check out our exclusive walkthrough of the White Glove Society quest in Fallout: New Vegas.

I think Alaska would be cool but I personally think fallout 4 should be a mmo but for pvp vats should be disabled or simply make it so people can only fight each others in some sort of kolosium like in the Pitt where they register there character to fight another person in there level range so there isn't a say level 20 going and killing a level 10 ect. So really people would either have to fight solo or together for survival and make it so people are able to start there own mob if you will aswell

I think that all the people saying new York is stupid ya it wuld be fun to play but it'd be to damn big for the makers. I think that London would be a fun place. But I wanna see the commonwealth and New Canaan. I am a dedicated player at 15 I have beat 3 and NV multiple times. I have had people tell me that the story line for 2 is really good but I haven't played it to know that. I still think bringing back the 1st 2 games on the new system software would be interesting. But still there's gotta be something connected between the commonwealth and new canaan that they aren't showing us that most of us wanna see. Anyways that's my thoughts about it peace out

Chicago is the only logical place considering the clues left in the last game due to ED-E's origin. we all know that he was from an enclave out post in Chicago and was being sent to Navarro. it seems like its the only place to go from here. the game as of right now needs to stay in the US and if it does go any where it should focus on China since they were the two countries at the heart of the war that ended in 2077.

As a brit myself, I would obviously love Fallout 4 to be set in London, i think that ration-book era Britian would make a great setting. There are a lot of iconic landmarks ready to be realised in post-apocolyptia and taken over by warring factions. Stricter gun laws would put more of a cool emphasis on improvised weapons. But on the other hand you also have MI5 and the Metropolitan Police operating out of the proud capital too, so who knows what they were working on while the folks over at the Pentagon were building power armor and giant robots that look like the warped child of a mech from gundam and bender from futurama?

There would also be some room for a bit of exposition: did the UK stay capitalist or turn commie? I'm assuming it would have been annihalated either way because it is the same size if not smaller than CA. There's a large variety of landscapes in London too: the very recognisable locations such as trafalgar square, canary wharf, south bank etc., endless tube tunnels and stations (which would probably become the home to many a soccer thug), Westfield (a giant shopping mall) and richmond park (A massive green landmass on the outskirts).

Also, if you think people in chatanooga, TN talk funny, you should hear the accents we have in this country. The unfortunate truth is that Bethesda probably doesn't have a studio in blighty, isn't very familiar with the geography of London, doesn't have enough knowledge to be able to mock the culture at the time and isn't willing to spend the extra money to fund research and hire British voice talent etc. and a 'Fallout:London' will probably never happen. If it does I just hope to god that professional soccer hasn't survived the apocalypse

Seattle would be an awesome location.
You have interesting terrain with working ferry's to move you around the region (ie Point Lookout).
You would have tribes on the different islands and peninsulas to contend with and vaious sites to explore that provide hardware, food, ect.
A heavy military area with multiple bases including nuke subs that would provide tons of nuclear material to create your own nuke weaps for Fatman's.
The chinese residents were part of the start of the war and have an active resistance to expand into the USA.
West coast BOS are present with their die hard technology gathering menatility. Think tech squads roaming you encounter for die hard battles out in the field.
Vaults burried in the cascades hides Bill Gates preserved much like Mr. House.
High rises with tribes to negotiate with, or kill to scavange.
Raiders from the North and South trying to take over Seattle and the Chinese trying to maintain a foot hold with BOS, Bill Gates trying to contol Science resurection and the Canadians trying to come in and scoop up the leftovers.
There is an underground Seattle that hides tunnels leading to the true new city which is vibrant and where you do much of your sales, trading.
You have all the weather potential and could easily change seasons and be legit. Of course you could have rain and fog a lot to throw things off including visibility beyond a 100 ft or so to make perception an important tool.
Seattle is a good town to use!!

They should keep it in America the theme of all of them is surviving in a post-war apoclyptic America. Anyways since no other countries have invaded America since the war was over, the other countries might be worse than America (like no one is alive).

The moon and the Amazon would be decent DLC's but by no means full games. Tokyo would turn into GTA with level up and there is no wasteland that gives the Fallout Vibe. Also, who wants to listen to Japanese for a whole game? London has the same wasteland problem and wouldn't give off the 50's vibe true to Fallout or have any interesting enemies besides soccer fans. Australia would be the only viable option but with a more developed story and they need a place with recognizable landmarks which the Outback doesn't have. It would also need small towns and civilizations that the Outback doesn't have. Charlotte, NC would be good because they haven't visited the south yet in the series, there would be cool monsters like massive spiders, crickets etc., and everybody has guns in the South. The metro has a good wasteland and imagine Lowes Moter Speedway or BofA stadium housing cities or massive nests of mutant deer. There could be a massive vault under Bank of America's HQ or Well's Fargo and the Brotherhood taking refuge in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The massive ware house of JR could serve as a DLC and the high schools could be faction locations. Memphis or Columbia would wok too.

new york all the way i want to see the statue of liberty being used as a military out post or the goden gate bridge being the last spot for battle, and the empire state build if it would be still standing would be like barter town central plus all the local gangs would evolve in full fledge raiding parties and be awsome to figth for turf controle.
P.S. bring back the regulators as a faction that would be awsome!

Boston would be good because of the Commonwealth. I wanna know more about the Commonwealth and the Institute, they are barely mentioned in Fallout 3.

I know that one of the central themes of Fallout is 1950s pulp sci in American culture, but having a setting in Tokyo, Japan could be cool. Not only that it could be done, becuase alot of our comic books and tv shows influenced Japanese science fiction like Astro-boy and Cyborg 009. To be honest Japan is the only setting outside the US that I think could work.

OMFG! NO! New york is good and all. BUT REALLY! who wants a Fallout where its just Tribes like in Wyoming If you played and finished Falllout New vegas you would know that the Great khans COULD go to wyoming and if you tell thier leader to he does and they create a giant empire. its like conquering all of wyoming living just off the wild while you get Guns from MERCHANTS only or you create it your self, It would be awsome if thier leader had a late son or Daughter....and you CONQUER wyoming...

OMG No, if you played Fallout new vegas you would know the Great khans went to The Wilderness of Wyoming. THAT HASNT been explored yet. you start off as the son of the Great khan Chief after Papa khan died. as you Attempt to conquer wyoming. imagine the creatures?. Giant Mosquitos Grizzly bears larger then Death clawns and yao guai's Mutated hawks and falcons..... God..... New york is good to..but id rather be a tribal in a super rural area like the wilderness of wyoming and be part of a tribe such as the khans.

whoever wrote this is a idiot, because they completely ignore the fact that fallout is set in the USA, the game mocks the culture of the US and more importantly FEV virus that makes all the crazy creatures ie Deathclaws and super mutants is only present in the US because Enclave created and spread it around the country
