Rock Band 3

Bad news, Playstation 3 rockers: When Rock Band 3 launches on October 26, you will not be able to buy a bundle with the new keyboard peripheral. From the official game forums:

"You may have seen that retailers have taken down the Rock Band 3 keyboard/software bundle pre-orders for PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, this SKU will not be available in the U.S. due to the agreement terms for the region. However, Mad Catz and MTV Games are working with those retailers that accepted pre-orders to enable them, if they choose, to honor those pre-orders placed prior to this change as soft bundles (separate discs and keyboards), at pre-order pricing. These retailers will have more details shortly."

If you're planning on playing the game on the 360 or the Wii, you'll be able to be fully keyboard-bundled. If you're PS3 owner, though, you'll have to purchase the game and the keys separately.

I'm way psyched for the 360 version of Rock Band 3; I love keyboards and harmonies, and both will be represented here. But lately, excitement levels for music games have seemed much less than in the past. Do you guys even care about Rock Band 3?

The pricing at Gamestop for the Wii keyboard bundle and PS3 game + keyboard are the same ($129). I agree with the authors sentiment about excitement around music games. I bet Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock was a flop. The reason I'm excited about Rock Band 3, even though traditionally I'm a Guitar Hero fan, is because of the premium stringed guitar available and the keyboard. And if you go back and think about what versions of these music games got you and your friends in line at midnight for a pre-order, it was always when they introduced new instruments. Really the last time a new instrument was released was Guitar Hero: World Tour (drums). Yeah, Rock Band beat them to the drum space, but the ps3 version had MIDI output. Nevermind that the GH:WT drums had poor connections and broke the next month.

Can anyone point out the differences between Rock Band 3 for Wii and for PS3? Trying to decide which system I want to buy it for. I hate how the instruments aren't compatible across platform.

Well, this is bad news for those interested in this peripheral because if the game costs $60 and the controller costs the same, the bundle usually saves the consumer $20 for buying both together, like when you buy a guitar bundle, like I did when I bought Warriors of Rock. Paying full price for both really sucks and it's just another reason why this game will not be as successful as past Rock Band games and nowhere near Guitar Hero. First this, and wait till they announce the price of the Pro controllers, which should be heart-wrenching to say the least. I bet you could get a good used guitar and amp for less than the price of this game and the guitar controller, and then there's really no point if you're going to do it for real then.

So what's the problem? Whether it comes in one box or two it's the same end price. Maybe they learned they don't need to spoonfeed PS3 users unlike the brainless 360 children who only buy games to shoot things.

im more interested in gh warriors of rock's story line and it has more songs and charting that im interested in. rockband 3 is so focused on that new stupid pro mode i bet the rest of the game sucks. and gh has that full rush album already included in the game!

Big Effin mistake, I mean do they not pay any attention the PS3 audience. "Let's kick them around a little more everyone else was doing it." Peripheral games are... I have no more words.

what is this?! psh this is crap. man im really getting tired of these lazy ass companies not fully doing their job. the separate keyboard peripheral will probably be incredibly expensive too. lol jeez.

I do not see why this is such a big deal. The price of the bundle will reflect that of excluding the keytar. Meaning the PS3 bundle will ultimately be cheaper than that on 360 and Wii. Now for me, who has no interest in playing a keytar, this is welcomed.

also EA is on the playstation side. They have had decent success on the playstation brand, PS brought many of EAs franchises into fame, including many in sports. No 3rd party shooter developer has really claimed the PS3 as its own. Activision has more or less claimed the 360. EA saw an open market on the PS3 and took it.

I am a huge fan of the franchise, but I wasn't really looking forward to the keys, and the setlist is very disappointing to me. I'm actually more excited to play some of the old disc songs and DLC with pro drums. I was already just planing on just picking up the disc and cymbal expansion, so this just solidifies that.

This doesn't really bother me that much..so now us PS3 owners hae to buy the keyboard and game seperately. The bundle was about 100.00 anyway so as long as they dont charge 60 for the game and 100.00 now for the keyboard it wont make much difference. I'm just glad that we aren't getting shafted like we were when RB2 came out and letting xbox owners have it a month before we could.

Not that I was going to buy this, but just another example of how big name devs don't give a crap about PS3 owners. I thought EA was supposed to be on our side?

This is only in the US too. Everywhere else gets the bundle.

But it's only $10 extra, I'm sure Ps3 owners are used to paying more. (I kid, I kid)
