Gears of War 3 has been delayed until Fall 2011. Why beat around the bush? The news sucks, especially considering how good Gears 3 has been looking over our last few visits. What was once to be a roaring April has now gone out like a lamb; wasn't that supposed to happen to March?
According to an official statement released by a Microsoft spokesperson about the fate of Gears 3, it's merely a business decision:
“Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”
So, what does this mean for next year? And what does Epic have to say about this?
Well, we heard from Rod Fergusson, Executive Producer on Gears of War 3, who helped put to rest any conspiracy theories:
"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall. Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come."
Bummer! We've barely started the 2010 holiday season, and already our eyes are on the end of 2011. If GOW3 is the marquee title for the holiday season, does that mean the yearly Halo ride seemingly comes to a close? What other Microsoft titles will they have to entice Xbox fans?
With big games like Rage and the next Call of Duty dated for the end of next year already, it's already looking pretty epic. Now, with the addition of Gears of War 3, it's just getting ugly! Even worse, we're a year away from finding out what happens to Carmine?! Oh the humanity!

Yeah this sucks. But the way Epic has been with their fans over the Gears franchise, I'm pretty sure they'll have enough in the game to make it worth the wait!! I'm still bummed out, but oh well, there are way too many good games coming out between now and next fall to tie me over.

I'm totaly fine with this, now there is absolutley no excuse to have broken multiplayer again. This also gives some smaller games a shot at being noticed during a quiet season.

For god sakes will someone release a game in July. They could release this game in any one of the three summer months and it would still sell like hotcakes. It's Gears Of War 3, one of the biggest games that's going to come out next year. I don't know why they insist on crowding the end of the year with all the big games, they are only hurting themselves when they put this game out around other heavy hitters.

it makes scenes if they release it at good time they are realizing that in april people will still be playing Halo, Black Opps, Brotherhood, and other titles so by pushing it back a few months they will have more player ready for a new multiplayer game

Could be Epics decision as well in holding it back. No clue why you would want to do this considering something might pop up in 2011 and ruin its sales. Honestly I say players should boycott the purchase of the game til 2012.

This is so annoying! I was looking forward to getting this in the spring for something to play all summer. Clearly Microsoft has nothing big coming out fall 2011 so they needed to shift the release date.

thats stupid why is microsoft so concered about christmass? just realese the game in spring like epic wanted to do kids will still get a hold of it regardless of when christmass is.......I HATE MICROSOFT!!!

They really need to release this in the summer because nothing comes out and people always have money to burn in the summer when no big games come out.

They dropped reach in September. Not exactly holiday season, so their logic doesn't hold up too well.
On a side note, I was only ever able to play campaign on Gears 2. Countless times trying and was never able to connect to a MP game even a couple months after release. Sold it on eBay

if it means that new ip's such as bulletstorm and brink don't get drowned in the space of a game to the level of gears 3 not to mention portal 2, dead space 2, crysis 2, ghost recon, deus ex, killzone 3, SOCOM 4 and duke nukem forever I think i'll be fine waiting five months.

Well, this sucks, doesn't it? A hear someone say that Microsoft probably pushed the game back to give some breathing room to Bullet Storm and the frenzy of the 3DS next spring. That makes sense I suppose. But why not release Gears of War 3 during summer then?

Not going to lie that this is garbage. Games get pushed back all the time because they're not done. Now we're just going to hold on to games to make you wait till Holiday. I thought we were going in the direction of good games all year round. I guess they're betting on being the big game next year. So now in stead of 6 months we have to wait a year to play I think this sux and if they want to announce a game date like they did they need to stick to in unless there's a good QUALITY reason. Not simply "hey it's gonna be a big game lets wait till Christmas time so we can make more money yey." I hope this all backfires and they lose sales because of this. I love Gears 1 and 2 but these decisions are just stupid. Almost as bad as if they had made it 2 games instead of 1 "looking at you Harry Potter and the Deathly hollows"
