Gears of War 3 Delayed Until Fall 2011 - But What Happens to Carmine?

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 has been delayed until Fall 2011. Why beat around the bush? The news sucks, especially considering how good Gears 3 has been looking over our last few visits. What was once to be a roaring April has now gone out like a lamb; wasn't that supposed to happen to March?

According to an official statement released by a Microsoft spokesperson about the fate of Gears 3, it's merely a business decision:

“Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”

So, what does this mean for next year? And what does Epic have to say about this?

Well, we heard from Rod Fergusson, Executive Producer on Gears of War 3, who helped put to rest any conspiracy theories:

"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue.  Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.  Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time.  Lots more exciting news to come."

Bummer! We've barely started the 2010 holiday season, and already our eyes are on the end of 2011. If GOW3 is the marquee title for the holiday season, does that mean the yearly Halo ride seemingly comes to a close? What other Microsoft titles will they have to entice Xbox fans?

With big games like Rage and the next Call of Duty dated for the end of next year already, it's already looking pretty epic. Now, with the addition of Gears of War 3, it's just getting ugly! Even worse, we're a year away from finding out what happens to Carmine?! Oh the humanity!

I was hoping this would not launch with/against Resistance 3 which has to be coming out fall 2011, that way fanboys would not cut at each others throats when they release o.o

I think its a smart business move for epic more than sony just for the simple fact bulletstorm is suppose to be release early next year. I don't think epic would want their new I.P. to compete with the monster I.P. Gears. No doubt people would be saving their money to get that and sales for bulletstorm would be alot lower than they are anticipating. So I agree with epic to go along with this cause in the long run it will surely help the sales.

Not that shocking if you think about it. I mean, that's when every Gears game has come out, typically in the fall. Plus, isn't this when Resistance 3 is supposed to come out (if I'm not mistaken)?

Really that is some bs. Save it for the holiday lets face it summer sucks for games. If we had GOW3 for the beginning summer 2011 would rock because we all be on gears. Besides is that really a good business plan. They always seem to be complaints about fighting for holiday space and how some games just lose business because of other titles pushing them out of the way. The suits only understand money, they don't understand the consumer the fans. I would say don't bother getting the game but gears rules. I already didn't get Reach cus its the same thing. If things get cheap I just won't bother with it.

Ya know what it doesnt matter when the game comes out, whether its Gears 3 or whatever else, because fans of the game are going to buy it no matter what!! Now its up to those in charge of the games to give us fans little teases to keep the hype machine going and making chomp at the bit just that much more. Im looking forward to RAGE and Gears 3 next year aside from that im not betting on much right now =)

As for the Harry Potter comment, well, allow me to pop in my two cents. Ive enjoyed the books and movies a great deal. Them splitting the movie into two is a smart business move because it will give them more money in their pockets and it will also allow the makers to give the franchise a proper send off making the FANS happy as well. and they arent waiting two years or so this time, its a difference between november 2010 and july 2011, thats not bad.....

I think Epic should give us 30x more experience in Gears of War 2 because of this delay.

I think we should all send a lump of coal to Microsoft for being such greedy SOBs. Lets get on the "Coal" train peeps.

I honestly think no one will boycott the game when it comes out cuz lets be real we LOVE Gears but how bout we instead shower Microsoft in coal as a protest! I think they deserve a worse gift but I'm a nicer person than that.

lol. they should have just done that in the first place since they wanted to get all of the holiday season money instead of saying early 2011. i bet they never even intended on releasing it in april when they first said they would

Why are people complaining about greed ? If Epic didn't create the best possible profit margin then they might not of had the capital to hire more people and branch off into Bulletstorm or something else.

This is too be expected. Gears now gets the marketing support of MS as the big 1st party Christmas exclusive of 2011. 2010 is being dominated by Halo Reach and Kinect launch. XBL will be swamped with COD and Reach gamers for at least a year, so April is too soon to drop another online multi-player game like Gears. It's also highly likely that both COD and Reach will have map packs for sale withing the first 6 months of 2011. And, there is a major hardware launch in spring 2011 from Nintendo. MS is moving Gears to give it the best chance at commercial success.

Don't know about the rest of you out there, but I kind of saw this coming. Aside from the ridiculous sales tactic this industry has of cramming all of it's games and releases otherwise into the last quarter of the year, when is the last time you ever had a company say a whole year before the game's proposed release that the date was set? Even now they're saying that it will be Fall 2011 but no date? Come on people, it would have been an industry's first if this game actually released on time.

This is all about the Benjamins baby.

Microsoft will most likely want to offer a GOW edition Xbox 360 for the holidays next year and bundle the game in with it.

Actually if you think about it, wouldn't it be a stroke of marketing genius to actually release the game via a system bundle w/ Kinect FIRST and then 2 weeks later release the separate game???

That would be one way to get a Kinect into A LOT of homes next Christmas.

So now the Xbox has no good games in 2011 that I can't get on the PS3 until September. Xbox owners have to wait from January all the way until September for a good exclusive. Meanwhile, for my PS3 in 2011 I will be playing LBP2, Killzone 3, Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Infamous 2, Socom 4, Twisted Metal, The Last Guardian, Resistance 3, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, MLB 11: The Show, Yakuza 4,and Disgaea 4. In 2011 the Xbox has Gears 3 and...........uhm............. ....hmmmmmm.................

But on the flipside, this is just a classic example of greed over what the people want. This is Gears of War for crying out loud!! There is a fanbase for this game big enough to where it really doesn't matter when this game is sold, because the fans are going to buy it regardless. Dropping the game in April or in the fall would not make a difference because the same people are going to buy the game!! I honestly think by pushing it back it's going to do more harm then good. Way too many epic games are coming out around the same time. So that means Gears is going to compete, instead of having the market all to themselves for a few months like Halo did this year. I think they should've dropped the game in April, then around fall holiday time, they should've dropped a few new map packs and other DLC. But then again, Microsoft might not have anything all that big coming out next holiday season. Because it does seem like they may have blown their whole holiday load this year on the Kinect.
