It might not be the painfully teased sequel fans have been clamoring for for years now, however Ubisoft has revealed that it plans to release an HD re-mastered version of its beloved and acclaimed action-adventure title Beyond Good & Evil on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live next year. Commence giggling with girlish glee in three…two…one.
IGN witnessed photojournalist Jade in all her 1080p glory and report that like other HD re-masters, BG&E’s will feature updated visuals, character models, and soundtrack, as well as trophy and Achievement support and online leaderboards.
The game doesn’t have a firm release date, other than 2011, which is a shame, but just the fact that so many more people are going to have the chance to experience one of the greatest games of all time for the first time makes the wait totally worth it. On the other hand, this makes me think that we really won’t be seeing Beyond Good & Evil 2 for at least another two years, as this rerelease feels like a “Here, this should tide you over while you wait a bit longer” kind of move. Hopefully this isn’t the case though. Papa needs his BG&E2!

This is fantastic news regardless of the fact that I just recently found and purchased it on XBOX at a flea market after months of searching. I guess I'll just be replaying BG&E sometime next year.

Come on Square, hop on the HD remake bandwagon along with Sony and Ubisoft and make us Final Fantasy VII in HD! FFXIII was underwhelming in pacing and honestly I have not felt the same "magic" in one of their games since FFX. I think it is time they gave fans what they have been clamoring for.

BG&E has been in my PS2 for over 4 months now, and for a very VERY good reason. It's so much fun to pick back up and start shooting pics of all the buggies and to sneak around and see how many of the baddies you can kill without being toasted.
I really hope that this "Test" passes and they put more motivation into BG&E2. PLEASE!?!?!

I bought this game on gamecube only because it was like $20 and never played it, but my brother did and said it was pretty solid. Maybe I can finally check it out.

Personally, I hope it's released in the summer of 2011. I just played through the game again 3 months ago. As great as the game is, it's not the kind of game you will want to play again right after you finish.

I was upset when my old PS2 finally died that I couldn't replay this game again. I'm totally going to buy this when it comes out and didn't even need the HD. FTW!

This is the only game I kept looking for on the backwards compatibility lists. Finally, good news. I hope this release makes a ton of money. They deserve it

This is gold, Jerry! All the old classics I adore from the last console generation are gettin' some love and that makes me happy. Perhaps, this time around, this critical darling (among others -Ico), will see financial success commensurate to their sheer awesomeness! Frankly, I'm sick to death with shooters/FPS's.
Even though I still have my PS2 copy of BG&E (and my PS2), this will be a "must buy" for me.
Now, if only RE4, SH2 and Okami would get the same loving treatment...

I own this game for both the Gamecube and the XBox. Looks like I'll be picking it up again. Could this be some kind of market test...re-release the original at minimal risk, see what kind of interest it drums up, and determine what to do with the sequel from there? In any case...everyone buy a copy, then buy a copy for your friends who only play shooters!
As for XBox getting in on HD re-releases...KoToR and Jade Empire, please! Maybe that Scrapland game. It was interesting but I couldn't get into it the first time. Would love to give it a second shot.

I would think they would release this close to BG&E2 to build up some hype and credit for the series.
