Welcome, one and all to another glorious edition of your favorite weekly video game web show Feedback. Tokyo Game Show 2010 is now officially behind us, and, most importantly, everyone made the flight home (except of course for Randy, the intern I just made up. Poor guy.) Anywho, on this week’s show, Kevin "Back from the Land of the Rising Sun" Kelly, sun stabber Abbie Heppe, the always sunny Nikole Zivalich, and son of a sabertoothed rock demon and fiery orc maiden J.P. Shub to discuss the week’s biggest news, TGS, and, officially, Halo: Reach.
Bulletpoint lovers rejoice! Here's a breakdown of this week's topics:
- Tokyo Game Show: Microsoft announcements (Project Draco, Radiant Silvergun), Capcom announcements (new characters for MvC3: Spider-Man, Wesker, Tron Bonne, X-23), EA hands-on (Alice: Madness Returns, Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam, Bulletstorm, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit) – standouts to mention are Shadows of the Damned, and Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor.
- Beautiful games that won’t come to North America, we talk about the Studio Ghibli title Ni No Kuni and Taito no Tetsujin Plus.
- Japanese weirdness: the Galgun girl exploitation title, and other games that exploit women.
- The unexplainable popularity of Monster Hunter Tri.
- Halo: Reach, game of the week – talk issues, multiplayer, single-player, why it’s so good.
- Bringing it full circle, Krall85’s question of the week asks if Japanese developers will ever change the games they develop to include Western audiences.
Feedback: Continuing the long tradition of subduing overzealous fans with pheromone water guns.

They show the glassed planet and your helmet at the beginning. If that didn't foreshadow the death of nobel team I don't know what did.
Also, F#&K you if you vote for swat.

You should have a sign you hold up that says 'spoiler alert,' then give time to pause, and then hold up a sign that says 'spoilers over' so we know when we can unpause and play again

Great feedback guys, good to see J.B and Nikole back on a panel. Not so great was that 1 sec spoiler alert. Thank you Capcom for adding Wesker to the line up. I think the major problem lies is in cheaters in any muiltiplayer they should have all xp and any lv reduced to zero.

Kinda of annoying Nicole spolied that. I had no time to pause and fast forward.

Anyone notice no ladies hosting Feedback (with this episode being a possibility)? i think Abbie would do a great job.

Another fine installment of the award winning Feedback. Shub needs to come on more often. Actually rock the 5-chair each week and keep this line up (but of course have the Sess take the captain's chair).
Anywho, I think what's happening to all these great Japanese game franchises is the same thing that been happening with their animation for awhile. It's becoming more westernized and losing the kind of essence of what made people actually like their stuff in the first place. Final Fantasy is a pretty good example. I-IX had a very distinct feel to them, with X it started changing slowly. Then came X-2, which is more or less fan-service (not that it wasn't a playable game, cuz it was). XI took the MMO route, which was a good idea, and still is. Now we're at XIII and it seems that FF has been contracted the status ailment confuse. It had a lot of the gameplay mechanics and art direction, but a lot of what the base fans came to love about it has long since passed. The same exact thing could be said about Metal Gear, it gets milked and hands the fans their every whim. If you give too many people too much of what they want, the heart and soul of what it once was gets so diluted. Or another way to put it is, there's a few too many captains on these boats, they don't know where they're heading.
On the topic of Japanese developers making good shooters: I don't know if it's exactly what one would say a "shooter", but I could see an Oblivion-esque samurai game being a brilliant idea. *shrugs* I don't know, they could pull off a lot of western genres, but they'd do better making the games they used to.

Dear Feedback,
I've been watching since the very first episode when Feedback was the Feed Night cap with Billy Berghammer. A year later, the show's blossomed into a different animal. But with the revamping (making Adam host and keeping Abbie and Patrick weekly, with a rotating chair), I got into a rhythm, enjoying the personalities of everyone on board with the project. But with Andrew and Patrick and Sterling leaving, and the now two rotating chairs, I feel like Feedback is losing some of its flair. Granted its still the best weekly video game video podcast that I've found, and still chew my fingernails anxiously every Wednesday night until the new episode comes out, but with Patrick s departure, I feel Feedback needs a new personality with the same sort of charisma, allowing for the back and forth banter with Adam and Abbie that made the show more exciting and hilarious. Perhaps Kevin Pereira? Anyone else got a view on the topic.
