Are you ready for a Michael Jackson MMO? It's going to happen. Planet Michael, (not to be confused with Michael Jackson: The Experience) is scheduled for a 2011 release. It will be free to download and play, but will pay for itself with micro-transations. It will offer "fans around the globe an innovative interactive gaming and social experience that celebrates Michael Jackson’s life as an artist and humanitarian."
Just what you always wanted, am I right?
It sounds a little like Second Life, honestly, but I'll let the press release describe it:
"Planet Michael is massive social gaming experience that will allow everyone, from the hardcore fan to the novice, to connect and engage in collaborative in-game activities with people worldwide. Entire continents will be created that will celebrate Michael’s unique genius in a way that underscores his place as the greatest artist of all time. Michael’s long-time fans will feel at home, as they find themselves in places that seem familiar and yet unknown at the same time, and new generations will discover and experience Michael’s life in a way never before imagined."
Seems like the settings will be based on Jackson videos and events in his life, but how it will be a game exactly remains to be seen. Is it exploration based? RPG? Shooter? Who knows!?
Martin Biallas, CEO of SEE Virtual Worldsm the company behind the game, put described it like this: “We envisioned a magical, enjoyable place that will capture that zest for fun and life that was at Michael’s very core. Throughout his extensive career, the King of Pop was well-known for his visionary contributions to music, dance, fashion, entertainment and philanthropy, and it was critical that we somehow incorporate all of those elements into the game.”
Sounds like you won't be able to kill anyone.
Here are the conditions under which I would play this game:
- Bubbles the Chimp is a raid boss.
- A decayed Neverland Ranch must be cleared of ghost -- think the amusement park level in Silent Hill 2, but with added Michael!
- Where's Tito? quest chain takes you all over Jackson-World in search of your under-talented older brother.
Seriously, I like the music of Michael Jackson. A lot. It cannot be denied.
