Thoughtful, moody platformer Limbo was the top of the charts of this Summer's Summer of Arcade promotion on Xbox Live.
“Our number one Summer of Arcade game is Limbo,” said Microsoft's Phil Spencer at the Tokyo Game Show, “by a long stretch. I think there was a time when Live Arcade was about IP that people knew. It’s changing though. I really think coming out of Braid, Shadow Complex, Limbo… that it’s changing a little bit. We see that in the market, that it’s becoming less about iconic IP that people know and it’s becoming more diverse."
So score one for style, class and intelligence over mindlessness. Good job, everyone who downloaded Limbo. Way to encourage quality!

There were some really good games in the SoA IMO. Although the only one I've purchased so far is Monday Night Combat (which was worth the $15 no question, although now w/ Reach out, the # of players is waning significantly). I'll definitely be picking up Limbo when it's on sale. I know it's supposed to be amazing and all, but $15 just seems like too much for a game of that length (okay okay, you can start in on the "jerks like you is what's wrong with gaming today. # of hours does not equal value!" posts...).

Limbo was not so great. The whole Summer of Arcade lineup this year was pretty bad, actually.

I would say limbo was the best game from the XBLA summer of games this year. I really enjoyed it.

I realy like Monday Night Combat. Actually, all of the games they featured this summer were really good. But Limbo just stood out from all the other games. You start playing it, and you never want to stop. The no music and muted sound effects really set the tone for the game. It is unlike any other side scroller I'd ever played. It's very much deserving of that honor!!
