Visceral Games has released a new gore-soaked trailer and some new details about the multiplayer mode being introduced in the developer’s horror follow-up Dead Space 2. The good news it sounds like a lot of fun. The bad news is that you’re going to have to watch your friends be ripped apart right in front of your eyes.
Multiplayer in Dead Space 2 will play out exactly how you would hope it would given the action-horror design of the game in that it follows a four-on-four, objective based structure. As the game’s producer Scott Probst explained on the Official PlayStation Blog, one side will play as Sprawl Security Team members, while the other team plays as vicious and nasty Necromorphs, including the Pack, the Lurker, the Spitter, and the new Puker.
The Necromorph forces will be focused entirely on terrorizing and wiping out the human squad, while the security team must stalk through the mode’s five locations in their attempt to rid the Sprawl of those nasty Necromorphs. There will also be a “level progression metagame” that will let players unlock weapons, suit skins, weapon upgrades, and Necromorph-specific improvements.

Seems like a nice change of pace from the typical multiplayer that is thrown into some of these single player games. I know it adds some re-playability, but does Dead Space really need a multiplayer component?

I rarely play much multiplayer, but this seems like it could be interesting. It doesn't really matter though, because I'm purchasing this one for the single player and Extraction.
