There are publicity stunts and then there are publicity stunts -- Microsoft's hype for Halo: Reach includes probably the coolest PR stunt I've ever heard of. A man dressed as a Spartan showed up at London's Trafalgar Square, hit a button and flew into the air using an actual jetpack. A freakin' jetpack! Where do I sign up for that guy's job?

Yes, there's video. Check it out:

For those who think that was a jet pack you are wrong the thing in the video is a rocket pack and it can only fly for about 3 to maybe 5 secs we have not made and fully functional jet pack the once I've seen can only push you if you are already up in the air.

I want one dammit. I don't care that it will cost me way too much money to fly around for a mere 20 seconds.

Come on nay-sayers, just admit this was cool.
He takes off at 2:11 and lands at 2:31 in the video. If the timing is still in sync with the video, that's a whole 20 seconds! And guessing by the other spartan's height, he is probably at least 20ft off the ground at one point. And then add on top of all that he was able to circle around the crowd, then return and land back on the ground relatively close to where he started has got to take a lot of training.

wth that blows! everyone in that crowd was asking "was that it?! that was like 3 seconds!" no action from the other guys either. they should have staged action on the ground. plus that jetpack is easily recognizable. they could have put more plastic panels (without disabling his function) to try to make it look futuristic. its like a spartan traveled back thru time to borrow a jetpack.

Would have been interesting had it been more covert and impromptu. This was just- "HEY! Look at the guy in a Halo costume and jetpack flying around for 3 seconds. *done* Ok, time to go home for some tea and strumpets."

First: Where oh where do I get a jetpack!!!!! Can anybody point me to a website showing the creation of the jetpack or a documentary??
Second: Where oh where can I find instructions on how to make a Master Chief suit of armor??
Third: That is super bad-arse. It would be a lot cooler if randomly in a big city they just had Spartans assemble, one obviously flying in with a jetpack. I was hoping to see something like that in New York and see viral videos of it. That would make this 1000x better. Cool idea, though.

Since this already happened I dont feel bad about saying this but, can you imagine if that guy went down? Talk about going from cool pr to terrible accident in the blink of an eye. Alas! He made it, and as far as I know that has to be one the higher and longer flights ever done in one of those.
