Duke Nukem Forever

We're obviously an undeniably excited for Duke Nukem Forever, but I was thinking about this: The game has been in development for 13 years, so many, many gamers were barely out of diapers when the last game was a sensation. Obviously, older gamers are excited -- we remember the first one -- but how about you younger readers? Do you guys care about old Duke Nuke? Or do you think his time has passed?

Most older gamers will excited for Duke but most young gamers care about is the next new thing. Next Halo, next Call of Duty, next new fad like motion control and 3D. They don't have appreciation for the great games in the past. You young gamers will be like us older gamers soon and in future, you'll be telling a bunch of kids to "Remember classic games like Halo: Reach and Modern Warfare 2? They don't make games like they used to!"

Frankly, I think the Duke's time has come and passed... it's sad, but it's true. He was a fun parody of those immature action flick heroes, but that's not really interesting to me anymore. I'm 25, so I've seen what the Duke had to offer back then and I'm sadly not so sure it'll measure up to present day games.

The Duke did give us a great catch phrase though; "I've got balls of steel."

I'm 19, and I remember my Dad playing the original when I was a kid. He never let me play it though because my parents liked to monitor what I had access too. I have never actually gotten around to playing it. I've played Doom and the original Castle Wolfenstein, but Duke Nukem has never really mattered to me. I think it would be a great idea if the original was included with Duke Nukem Forever like Castle Wolfenstein was with Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Duke Nukem holds a little nostalgia for me, but not enough for me to make sure and have it on my list of games to watch out for. If I somehow get a chance to play it I will. If not, oh well.

Duke 3D was among my first gaming experiences outside of a console. I had only really played Nintendo up until that point, but then I discovered Doom, Quake and Duke, back when games were distributed mostly via shareware. I also played Rise of the Triad and all of those games hold a warm place in my heart. I realize historically that games with as much anticipation and hype as DNF has, that it can be extremely easy to disappoint with a sequel. Many in the gaming community for example, crushed Doom 3 when it came out, I however, thought that the game was splendid. I have a great feeling that being in the hands of Randy Pitchford and the Gearbox crew, is the best thing to happen to duke since he went from the side scroller. My sincerest hope, however, being 27 now, that I don't have to wait until I'm 37+ to play a new Half Life game. Let's rally to make sure Gordon Freeman doesn't become the next Duke.

I had only seen bits and pieces about it but really learned about it when the Duke Nukem team had been laid off. I still don't know too much about it, but I hold respect for the game because it's still being talked about from when I was but 3. I really want to check it out come release time, and hopefully, someday I would like to get my hands on the original one.

I'm 19, I never got the honor of playing the first Duke Nukem. However i did get to play Time To Kill around age 9 or 10. I had no clue what was going on in that game but i enjoyed the hell out of it! Now that i recall, I played that game first on one of those Playstation Underground Discs and loved it!

why do you have to write articles that make me feel old. I remember playing it when it first came out when i was a freshman in high school. of course I do believe you are older than me, so I can take solace in that thought mr. johnson.

At 26, I've always been primarily a console gamer, so I never got into Duke Nukem. I'd like to try Forever out to see the result of such chaos, and have faith that Gearbox can put out a solid game, but I think this one is going to be thousands of days late, and millions of bucks short.

"We're obviously an undeniably excited for..."

Does G4 not have a proofreader on staff? I swear, 3-4 times a week I see simple grammatical errors on posts that make me start to believe that there is some truth to the conspiracy theory that the media is in an orchestrated effort to dumb down the masses, i.e. 1984.

I remember playing this in elementary school. I could never find some of the hidden passages to actually beat it, but my dad was in love with the thing, he played the game through completely many times.

I've known about Duke Nukem since I was in elementary school, but barely even played it, if not at all.

Not only that, but I knew that Duke Nukem has been a gaming icon for the longest time and still is, but that won't stop me from going back to playing the old-school ones to see what the rave was about :)

I have the fondest memories when it comes to Duke on N64. I used to come home from school and go straight over to my neighbor's house to play.

I have been gaming since the early nineties and never heard about Duke Nukem before the rumors of a new gaming coming up. I do not really have an opinion, but let's hope the game is good and it is not a rip off for nostalgic fans.

I barely played the old Duke games. I tried them once or twice, but Doom was my FPS game of choice when I was a kid.
That said, I intend to play this
