In the past, Halo lobby nameplates haven't told you much other than a person's name, rank, and if they'd connected their gamertag with Bungie.net or not. Halo: Reach expands your options tenfold by giving you different choices for that nameplate. The catch? You have to have the game data to back up your choice.
Register your gamertag on Bungie.net, and you'll be able to change these at will. Read on for a full list of nameplates, and the requirements to display them.
Halo: Reach Unlockables

Default: Halo Reach
This is what you'll see if you haven't changed anything. Standard. Drab. Boring. Dress it up, already.

Marathon: Durandal
Turn back the clock, download Marathon: Durandal on Xbox Live Arcade, and relive the glory days of early Bungie to unlock this one.

Halo PC
Still have your PC or Mac product key from Halo: Combat Evolved? Then you can input it on the Bungie website to unlock this nameplate.

Halo 2
If you ever set foot in Halo 2, you'll have access to this baby. Unfortunately, they can't track original Xbox Live history, so if you played with another gamertag, you're out of luck.

Halo 3
Finish the Fight in Halo 3, or start a new one on Xbox Live, and you'll be able to paste this one in your lobby.

Halo 3: ODST
Spent any time driving Buck around while connected to Xbox Live? Then this nameplate could be all yours.

Halo
Prove you're hardcore by unlocking the complete Halo trilogy. Score Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3 nameplates to get this tag.

Spartan Helmet
Unlock any four of the five nameplates from Halo through Halo 3: ODST and/or the Assault Rifle to get the helmet on your nameplate.

The Septagon
This is similar to the icon you would get if you linked your Bungie.net account with your gamertag in Halo 3. If you've played multiplayer on Xbox Live, you'll be able to use this.

Assault Rifle
If you love the assault rifle and played the Halo: Reach beta in May of this year, then you'll have access to this plate.

DMR
Subscribe to Bungie Pro and you'll be able to unlock the Designated Marksman Rifle nameplate.
Halo 3 Unlockables

Default Halo 3
This was the default lobby nameplate in Halo 3, and it's back. You know, if you're into the whole blank, blue thing.

Bungie.net Linked
Link your account with Bungie.net and you'll get this nameplate, which used to be the source of millions of people asking "How'd you get that?!"

OK, people that have already seen and know this news... why look here and post 'omg you are like so late, wow g4 you are such noobs.' For people that don't frequent Bungie.net or wherever else you find your Halo Reach news the millisecond it comes out, We are happy to see this. I love Halo but I can't be spending all day looking for new updates about it... I can wait 4 more days.
Alright, sorry for the rant. On point, I wish I didn't need a Halo PC code to get the Halo emblem. I might just have to buy Marathon for that sweet arse one. If not it's all H2 for me.
Socrates'sMind
Some good little changes to spice things up a bit.

@Griever
I think even though it says "buy" that you can still get the nameplate by just playing the game with someone who does own it and maybe even get an achievement or two from the game itself to show you've really played it. I'm not 100% sure if this method will work but it's what I did so hopefully it does.
mattgindago
you guys are a month late on this.
theantigzus
Hmmm, i have to go find a copy of halo for the pc real quick
Griever2112
That sucks... you need to buy Durandel for XBLA in order to get the cool tribal nameplate...looks like I'm sticking to the Forerunner/Septagon for mine.
Tman88
The Marathon nameplate looks pretty cool with the tribal looking theme.

1) G4, this is the second time you've reported Halo: Reach news more than a month after it became news.
2) I wish there would be a nameplate for having EVERY nameplate.

It appears my backwards time machine was successful then.

News to me. ;)

You guys really dropped the ball on this one. This is very old news.
Acerlux
You guys are actually missing a few. There's one that says "Halo" for people who got the Halo PC, Halo 2, and Halo 3 lobby nameplates, and a Spartan Helmet one for those who got all of those along with the ODST and Reach beta ones. There's also a DMR one for Bungie Pro subscribers.
