Silent Hill 8 is coming to the PlayStation 3 and 360 in 2011, according to Konami. The eighth installment in the venerable horror franchise promises to stay "true to the franchise," and deliver a third person horror experience.
“In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we’re working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve,” said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. “This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.”
Please enjoy this official description of the game:
The survival horror experience begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. Gamers will encounter mind-bending puzzles, as well as horrific creatures and otherworld terrors using everyday objects from wooden chairs to glass bottles to fend off their enemies. The natural response, fight or flight is left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series, as well as anyone who enjoys a deep, psychological horror experience. In addition to the main storyline, players will also be presented with variable side quests along the way that can change depending on their play style, revealing unknown evils within the town.
We'll have a gameplay video up for you shortly, but until then, enjoy this older trailer from E3:

Gahhhhhhhhh!!! I can't wait. I'm skeptical whether or not I will be sucked in to the extent I was with the help of Akira, but still... I love every single Silent Hill game (well, not so much 4) so I'm sure this one will be great. I'm excited to see what they can do with the story line in this one as well.

Had my eyes on it since I saw the trailer. Started with one but ended with the 4th. Can't wait for it to come out!

It's once again, ignored on the PC. After buying Homecoming though, I'm not near as disappointed, since they royally screw homecoming up on the PC. Still, I'd like Konami to make PC gamers again. It would be the only way I'd be able to play it, since I don't care to own any consoles this gen.

I hated Homecoming. Some of the worst fighting mechanics in the history of gaming. If this is anything like that I'm going to pass.

I am excited about this I have been a fan of Silent Hill from the first one on. One of the only game franchises that truly scared me.

Eight? Don't get me wrong, now, I went to school in the Midwest, but in the numeric series, I'm relatively certain that 6 comes after 5. I'll attempt to replicate my findings, however. 1,2,3,4,5... ... ... ...damn, where did I put my nieces number line...
But in all seriousness, the trailer looks promising, though Konami has been full of empty promises since 3. In time, we'll see.

Thank god, i have not enjoyed a silent hill game since the first 3 back on the ps2. So far all the SH games since then have sucked balls!!!! I really hope this will be made by the original team.

Sweet I love silent hill. I like Homecoming just because I can relate to the character a little more. Silent Hill has always been so creepy and I love it. Hahaha I hope this on is a good to just with better graphics.

I've never played a single Silent Hill. I've always wanted to but I just never do. Cause If I start I want to start with the first one. Hopefully box sets will emerge.

HOLY CRAP!!! looks really great, they should call it Silent Hill: Don't drop the soap. And i too will miss Akira.

Wow, I haven't been this excited about a silent hill game in a long time. The fact that there dealing with an escaped convict gives them the opportunity to go for a different approach story wise, then they usually do.
P.S. It's Sazh at 2:33

This looks promising, but I just don't know if it will be the same without Akira Yamaoka's music.

I will greatly miss the Akira Yamaoka soundtrack, but nevertheless, I'm still excited for this game.
