At Pax 2010 this evening, Bioware and Lucasarts revealed that Darth Revan will appear in .upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. When last we left Revan, he was hurtling outside of known space, so hopefully, we'll learn more about the epic journey he/you began in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. What has gone on in the intervening years is anyone's guess.
While there weren't any other super-major revelations at the Pax panel, the gathered thousands (seriously!) of gamers did learn some other interesting things about The Old Republic. First off, Alderon will be featured as a the backdrop for some serious Imperial vs. Republic PvP.
The game will also feature "traditional" MMO elements like crafting, guilds, and raids.
Speaking of MMO traditions, the classes you know and love from other MMOs will have their equivalents in TOR. For example, the Trooper: Commando class is essentially a tank, and the Jedi: Wizard is a healer.
The deviation from "standard" MMO's involves choice and story. The game will feature countless choices that have actual effect in the game world. The consequences for choices will be represented in gameplay.
The example Bioware gave at the presentation was fascinating. One of the early quests for Sith involves spending a long time harvesting crystals in a dungeon run. When you exit, a fellow novice asks you to give up your crystals so he may pass the test. You have the option of sacrificing to help him.. which gives you "Light Side" points. So it's possible to be a Light Side Sith or a Dark Side Jedi... the downside? It's very, very hard: Should you give up your crystals, you'll need to complete the same arduous collection quest you just finished, so choices have real consequences in game.
Another interesting aspect of the game: When you're partied up, and presented with a dark side/light side decision, majority rules. So if you're the odd man out, your game will be affected by the choices your party-mates make. Bioware explained it by essentially saying that when you interact with other people, it sometimes gets a bit... messy.
This is a minor point, but perhaps an important one: The game's previously announced space combat will be "on rails." The official explanation hearkens back to the Star Wars films. Bioware basically explained that never in the Star Wars films do you see Han Solo and Chewie deciding to "just dick around over there for awhile." Essentially, the space battles are meant to be exciting story elements as opposed to opportunities to explore the boundless reaches of space.

personally i think Darth Reven should have stayed Darth Reven instead making him a jedi and to bring hes story back would be nice even though he is a jedi i would like to know more about his adventure into deep space hell make another game out of it id defiantly like to see that

The fact that the space combat is on rails is not an issue with me because i can't just fly around and explore space, but more of an issue that i would like it to be like battlefront 2 where i can move in a 360 degree range instead being on rails.

OK did no one else play the second game. Revan is a woman so if none of you can remember that how can they not expect to do what ever they want with the game.

OMG! I CANT WAIT!!!!

The whole good Sith, evil Jedi is a cool idea and actually is true to the movies if they allow you to turn. Count Dooku was a Jedi and turned, as did a certain Skywalker. While the other end is of course Revan who can't make up his mind. It really gives a person a chance to experience both sides, but I'd like to see some consequences for swapping.

Considering someone who looked like Malak with his mouth thing ripped off and Bastilla were in the E3 trailer, I'm not surprised by Revan's appearance at all. I don't really want to see him or interact with him t. Considering everyone who has played the KOTOR series has played as him for two games, it would be a poor choice for him to be an NPC.
A better solution for his inclusion would be to hear rumours/dialogue about of Revan's adventures. I.E. A rumour about Revan gathering an army/rebellion. Whether that rebellion/army is good or bad could be conceived in the player's mind.

The fact that Revan is coming back is odd How could he live for that long (unless through the force like Darth Sion or was frozen like Han Solo.) Also after KoTOR his hold on the light side was not that great, It is possible that he again fell to the dark side and he will come back as Darth Revan.

can this game just come out, the suspense is killing me

In a video game where the player CHOOSES how the story goes, it's gonna be real hard to create a sequel without somehow carrying over previous choices made. There'll probably be a series of questions ("What did Revan do in YOUR game?) just like Mass Effect 2 and then Revan will become an NPC with a personality based on how you answer those questions. BTW, the photo G4 chose is not even of Revan. Revan wears a black/brown cloak and Teutonic style mask.

oh god! Revan reborn may or may not mean he is back learn to read inbtwin the lines G4

Not to be nit-picky here... but its spelled Alderaan; not however the writer butchered it

Forced powered beings can live longer than most and, well, in this glaaxy is full of technology as well. I am sure a few enhancements can make someone live longer too.

I'm assuming that Revan is going to be mentioned in dialogue or will have a statue/memorial in his honor. Having Revan as a Force Ghost would break the canon.

I wonder if Raven is supposed to be the sith Lord Palpatine refereed to when he told Anikan about how you can extend you or someone elses life by using the dark side.

This news is very exciting i cannot wait for the game to come out now, i have already spread the news to my friends and its what we are all talking about now. i really can't wait for the game now more than ever. while the space combat being on rails is dissapointing i can see it from the designers perspective as well (so much for my space race against friends) how ever the hole majority rules i think will be good in a way to bring like minded players together so that they can all recieve the light/dark side points they deserve.
GO BIOWARE!!

The sith were a race as well as a set of ideals. Its not about being evil its about ruling emotions and allowing your passions to guide you. Its possible to be a sith and follow the light side. You just have to accept the emotions instead of repress them like jedi do.

im really excited for this game....i love star wars but idk very much of the lore outside of the movies and a couple games i have played so its great that this game can appeal to me as well!

The good tension is building! I will be playing this day and date as many of us will be. It is time, IMO, for World of Warcraft to be laid to rest. But actually, who am I kidding, though Star Wars will be popular, as long as people funnel the money for other MMOs, they will continue to exist. Its all good, still SWTOR is gonna be the new 800 pound gorilla because Bioware has never disappointed. Question is, are there more Star Wars fans than WoW fans. Its almost time to grab the popcorn and watch the chaos ensue!

looking forward to this, big win on the part of bioware here
