As if you needed yet another reason to hate Stephen Johnson, here he comes with his hands-on impressions of the co-op portion of Valve’s uber anticipated follow up to one of the most beloved titles ever, Portal 2, straight from the show floor at PAX Prime 2010. Just so you know I’m not lying, here’s a little tease:
"The demo at PAX showed off the beginning of the game's two-player track. It's totally separate from single-player, and Valve says it's about twice as long as the entirety of Portal. A key difference from the first game are the characters. Chell is saved for the single-player experience. In co-op, players take the role of either a skinny, orange robot or a fat, blue one. Each has a portal gun, and the two work together to solve challenges presented by GLADos."

Probably my most anticipated title in years. I have a friend borrowing The Orange Box right now and I want it back because I want to replay Portal! Absolutely one of the best games I've ever played. Cannot WAIT for part 2.

an interesting concept, i hope the execution is not flawed. i dunno if i'll be getting portal 2 over assassin's creed brotherhood, brink, fallout new vegas, medal of honor, LA Noire and Star Wars The Old Rebpublic.
but i do still hope this game is good, i hope to oneday own it.

When I first saw the two robots for the multiplayer, (One with an orange eye, one with a blue eye) I felt sure that the dynamic would work such that one person created one portal, the other created the other. But that was purely based on the eye color of the two and it's association with the portal gun we're already familiar with.

another game i missed at the show. probably the second longest line there, next to duke. however i DID see morgan webb cut right in front of everyone and snapped a pic of her from the brink line. sigh, what i would do for celebrity status...

@migespi: i am pretty sure it is the source engine. Valve is just continuing to upgrade the source engine; i don't think they're going to abandon it; they are just going to continue upgrading it...

I can already tell that I'll play this version way less than single-player because I'm by myself more often than with somebody. It'll be just like CoD Spec Ops. I always feel like I'm not getting my money's worth, playing this huge section of the game only once or twice. I might try playing with two controllers; now that's a real challenge.

@jake
Is there any way you can find out what engine Valve is using? It doesn't look like the Source engine anymore, but I could be wrong. If it's a new engine that shows promise for a new Half-Life entry.
