Perhaps to further prepare for the imminent release of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo announced today that it will lower the price of the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL on September 12 to $149.99 and $169.99, respectively.
“We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend,” said Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway in statement released this morning. “Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems.”
Japan, the UK, and Australia saw similar price drops earlier this year. And it’s a good thing too, because the previous price point was clearly hamstringing the DS’s popularity and sales potential.

*Waits for 3DS. As soon as he buys the 3DS. Lite version will come out, then 3DSi, then 3DSi XL. >_> Here we go again.

Quick, someone tell Microsoft that they are supposed to be DROPPING prices, not raising them. Nintendo probably just forgot to forward Microsoft the memo.

The XL is the best DS to date. I got my day 1 and never use my older DS's at all. Really a major improvement for those who have not bought one.

No big deal to me, I've been sticking with the original DS since 2004 (And boy is it battle scarred) and with the 3DS coming out next year, I don't see the point in getting the DSi or the XL.

I figured they would have to do this sooner or later. The price is one of the main things that was holding this system back.

So seriously, if you don't have either of those already why would you buy one now when the 3DS is due out with rave reviews in it's corner?

No big shocker here. The big question now is when and how much will 3DS be?
