Hey folks, ever hear of this game called Red Dead Redemption? Do you like it? Well, if you hold out your hand carefully, I've got a microscopic grain of salt I'd like to hand you. Why? Because in a report that I could compliment by calling "shaky at best," it seems that the one and only Brad Pitt is looking to adapt the ground-breaking open-ended western to the big screen. Plans appear to have Pitt play the lead character John Marston, (as opposed to his hormonal son with a perpetual chip on his shoulder.) Apparently, the Red Dead movie will serve to revive the genre of the Western film "with a few modern touches." According to the report, Pitt has been directly offered the role, given first refusal. Whoa!...Right?!
We could question the wisdom in making a film adaptation for a video game that's so lush and exploratory that it makes you feel as if you lived those events. However, at the end of the day, Hollywood is going to do what Hollywood is going to do. Cynicism aside, the story of John Marston's quest for revenge would indeed make excellent fodder for a Hollywood film. Also, for fans of the game that have completed 100% and spend their time in free roam endlessly shooting stuff for kicks, it may prove more of a curiosity than anything. What parts from the game's storyline would make it into the film? Would it end in the same grisly manner? Will they manage to make De Santa any gayer?
What do you think? Are you interested in seeing Brad Pitt don a worn-out cowboy outfit to go massacre squatters at Gaptooth and headshot road bandits in between picking some Wild Feverfew over by Cholla Springs?

Does hollywood have to take everything? sheesh
Krukrous
I think he would be perfect just look how he did in inglourious bastards but i hope they follow the storyline of the game and dont do any twist or anything
Aldowyn
He doesn't fit the role any more than he fit the role of Achilles. (... Hmm, Sam Worthington would make a good Achilles. But he already did Perseus.)

This game like so many doesn't need a film adaptation. RDR was good on it's own, with a great true to the west story and host of great western characters. I really don't see a need for this to be made into a movie.
However if we do get a good western movies from the popularity of this game, I wouldn't mind that too much. Wouldn't mind that too much at all.

i always thouaght why do video games need movies like really. you know the plot already. red dead was great riding the horse being a cowboy putting yourself in the story play how you want it. in a movie you only see one guys twisted view and never have that expiernce in the game like a movie

Truthfully, I think this would be more than an excellent idea. Brad Pitt's an excellent actor, and more than likely could pull off this role easily. Only thing that'd make me skeptic about this is Hollywood's history with movies besed on video games. They're either complete pieces of crap, or average at best that don't really stay true to the source material (I'm looking at you Resident Evil). If the right director gets behind this, then it could be great.

He is a good western actor, as seen in the film 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'. He is also proven to be capable of humor with his action, so I don't see any problem with this.

I like the dark humor in RDR, and I think it could be translated to the big screen. I'd prefer it to the hyper-serious Westerns that have been out (310 to Yuma, Open Range, Appaloosa).
I also like Pitt in Burn After Reading, so I have no problem with him.
Illinois Broski
I hope this isn't true because Brad Pitt is one of the most over-rated actors in Hollywood.

i wanna see who's gonna play the roles of wally, seth and irish
camaro72toy
who is gonna play the secret character at the end of the game?
SteveB
Ever since I saw the character in the game, I thought Marshall Allman (L.J. from Prison Break, Tommy from True Blood) would be sweet for the son. And looking at them, Brad Pitt and Marshall Allman could go well together.
Of course, there is a bit of an age difference between the actor and the character...

my only problem is 2 thing could happen 1 it will almost follow game exactly so ill know what will happen or they change or too much i dont even have a clue who people are and what they are doing
thePcgamer
This..could actually be amazing
CustosIntusSilentium
Awesome. Hopefully they'll have a live action scene where Brad gets mauled by a mountain lion or some bears. Gotta stay true to the subject material and all good actors are method actors!
Colty Byrd
