G4 Casting Call: Be On 'G4 Underground'Kathryn Bigelow’s 2009 Academy Award winning film The Hurt Locker delivered a riveting and intense portrayal of life as an Army bomb squad unit stationed in Iraq. Starting next year, G4 will go beyond the fiction to bring you Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan, a new series about the real life soldiers who put their lives on the line every day as members of an Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit stationed in one of the most hostile environments in the world.

The show will follow the lives of the EOD team, both at home and in the blistering terrains of Afghanistan, as they train to become members of this elite bomb dismantling task force. G4 will take viewers inside the day to day operations of the EOD Mobile Unit Platoon, providing an unparalleled level of access to these highly skilled and death-defying soldiers.

"There is simply no way to comprehend the incredible amount of pressure and split-second decision making these individuals must undertake in the worst possible physical conditions without riding along with them as our cameras will do," said G4 president Neal Tiles. "This is a rare opportunity to showcase the work of the courageous men and women on the front lines, and share with our viewers all the real-life drama, teamwork, danger and triumph that goes along with this specialized job. G4 viewers will see these real-life heroes putting their lives on the line as they go through what, for them, is just another day at the office."

Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan
premieres in October 25th only on G4.

I have a question for the honchos at NBC Universal. Since this is going to be appearing on a regular basis on G4TV just like a TV series (in spite of the "Documentary" label) and since NBC Universal will be collecting revenues from the series advertisers, how much, if any, of the advertising proceeds will be dedicated to the EOD personnel who will have leading roles in this documentary? I have a suspicion that I already know the answer, but I'll be interested to hear what NBC Universal has to say about this.

why do people talk like this is still a video game channel? for years now there has only been one video game show. Also, is this Army, or Navy EOD?

For the record I am a soldier in Afghanistan stationed at the same fob with the film crew for this DOCUMENTARY, not reallity show, there is no imunity idol or prize money here, I appreciate the efforts being made to show this side of the story. The real side, and how does this relate to video games....Well I have played all the Modern Warfare style games, and I have lived through the real deal, The games while fun and challenging to play give the gammer a very distored view of what real battle is like maybe this show can help put that perspective into the minds of the gamers.

lol at the people who stubbornly want to see only games and nothing else. This show sounds interesting and I'd like to see soldiers' views and attitudes during this time.

Sure it doesn't have anything to do with video games, but my life is more than that. So is G4.

Also: seriously, do you think they're going to show so die on G4? Really? No. Go away.

This is absolutely horrifying and obscene. What are you asking viewers to tune in to see? Our brave men and women in uniform competently doing a dangerous job under adverse circumstances for little pay, or to see someone maimed or killed for your profit? Let's be honest now...do people watch NASCAR to see cars turning left or to see them crash? Among the hundreds of hardships that our military personnel and returning veterans have to face, PLEASE do not this degradation to the list. Cancel this show before it airs and you have to "decide" whether or not to air a video of one of the bravest humans of the face of this earth being maimed (or even more horrifyingly, killed) in the service of his country to earn your channel advertising dollars.

Groundbreaking my ass this will be as groundbreaking as eff'n science, and everyone knows they're just doing the same thing Mythbusters has been doing for 7+ years.

When I click on the G4 site it says VIDEO GAMES, GAME REVIEWS & NEWS. I don't think the title of your website says anything about what you show on your station.

Why are we getting shows like this? I have nothing against the military. I have family that are in the military and have done multiple tours in Iraq but G4 is suppose to be a gaming channel. What the hell happened to all the gaming content. I'm sure people at G4 will say that it didn't do well with ratings or whatever excuse they have, but the thing is it that if you want to get G4 on cable or satellite you have to buy the biggest package they have just to get G4. Sorry to say but you have a lot less viewers because no one wants to upgrade to an expensive television package just to get G4. If G4 was a part of cable or satellite's more basic package's with 80 channels or so you would get G4 in a lot more homes everyday and have the audience that would want to watch gaming shows. Kids and teens don't have control over what the parents are paying for and can't make them upgrade there t.v. just for one channel. I dream of the day when I turn on G4 and they are showing nothing but gaming and technology shows. It would be the best channel on t.v. Its just to bad that all you show is shows like cops and cheaters. The only reason to watch G4 anymore is X-play and Attack of the Show. If it continues the way its going nobody is going to watch G4 anymore and are just going to come to the website for the few morsels of gaming information their going to provide. Its truly sad.

I guess I must have missed something. G4 is the gaming channel (or was) but now it is, er, well should I say branching out to become the next MTV? Look don't get me wrong, MTV makes a LOT of money and that is what everyone wants to do, right? So what will be the next gaming channel after g4 switches to 'reality tv' and 'gamers who live together'? I just want to know so I can watch THAT channel.

This has to be better than cops or cheaters but G4 needs to go back to video games. Instead they put on reality shows which we can find on MTV.

To everyone accusing this of being "reality TV," it's not. It is a DOCUMENTARY show.

G4 I know you have to make money but seriously can't you do a better job appealing to the gamer?
Also what the hell happened to Brainiac? That was the better version of your new show it's effin science.

I long for the the days of Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton gracing my TV screen.. Now I don't know what G4 is. Well, it's "entertainment for college men" and that's about it. Spread yourselves too thin and you'll find there's not enough peanut butter on the sandwich.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the G4 network (and when I say G4 network I really mean AOTS and X-play and online exclusives) outside of that I don't really tune in (except for some decent documentaries).

I like the History Channel and TLC too, so why couldn't I watch this bomb squad program on their networks? Just cause the Hurt Locker was successful doesn't mean we need a reality show on a gaming/sub-culture program. Does it? Are we running out of ideas for shows?

    Just my two cents.

I dont even watch G4 anymore. I make it a daily routine to check the site for news and reviews, but all the channel is, is cheaters and cops and shows i have absolutely no care for. Even xplay is just stuff i could get instantly on the site but with commercials and ultra limited details

This is probably G4's way of saying that the US army is their new sponsor. I wonder if a khaki background is better than a Sprint white one...
