Metal Gear Solid: Rising Gameplay Preview

If you're a pacifist, don't worry, you'll still be able to enjoy Kojima's Metal Gear Solid: Rising. According to producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, you'll be able to complete the entire game without taking a virtual life, continuing the tradition of non-violence in Metal Gear games.

"I believe that MGS has a key stealth element in not trying to kill anyone," Matsuyama says. "You could actually have a no-kill completion [in Rising]. There will be a lot of mechs and cyborgs, but if you slice them up, that will be considered as a no-kill as well. You'll have the freedom of killing humans, of course, but you can proceed through the game without killing a human being, but slicing up mechs and cyborgs."

I don't have the patience for no-kill completions of any game that offers that option. I may begin a game with the best intentions, but eventually, I'm going to get fed up and empty a clip into a bothersome enemy. I don't feel bad about it either. I will, sometimes, go for the "kill everything" option, and meticulously extinguish the life from everything in a game, whether I need to or not.

Any pacifist gamers out there who plan to play Rising without killing when it comes out?

Hasn't this been a feature in every MGS game?

I've never taken full advantage of it...just more convenient to kill the majority....though certainly some bosses and characters are far easier to knock out instead of flat out kill....the "death" sequence plays out anyway...always had a variety of ways to get to that sequence though...maybe I'm remembering wrong...

though certainly the slice and dice gameplay and change in tone...wouldn't have necessarily expected it for this title...

If I wanted to spend a long time trying to get things accomplished and go through a day without killing anybody, I'd just live my normal life.

Why wouldn't killing a cyborg count as killing a human?

I will intentionally be seen so more guards come so I can then mow them down.

I might do that for the challenge. But second play though, heads will roll...

I played through MGS4 without killing anyone, but I only did that to get the infinite ammo headband so I could unload on everybody the next time through.

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

I like 'cappin' fools too much. If people are trying to kill me... I'm going to kill them first.

    A challenge indeed...

Did it with MGS4, and will do it for this game as well

I think i'll end up going through the game trying out both ways, though i'll admit it takes me quite a bit of patience because i do end up getting ticked off at enemies shooting me in the back.

In MGS 1 I did one playthrough and the only people I killed were the Foxhound guys/bosses. In MGS 2 or 3 I usually did non-lethal takedown and such unless I got caught and the alarm sounded. I've yet to go through those games doing non-leathal only, even if you can do it with the bosses. I'll probably try it for MGS Rising, though.
