You know, in the year that's passed since I was last on Feedback, a lot has changed. It's better looking, more professional, and the studio smells a whole heck of a lot better than ever before. You know what hasn't changed? Sitting and talking gaming with some of the best in the business is still a damn good time. This week, your humble narrator joined Adam "The Hammer" Sessler, Abbie "The Jackhammer" Heppe, and Dana "Hammertoe" Vinson for a discussion about Madden NFL 11, as well as a look back at the stifling heat of QuakeCon 2010.

Feedback -- Madden 11 & QuakeCon Edition »

Alright, rookie. Here are the rest of this week's discussion topics:

  • Ken Levine showed off his fancy new dystopic city in the sky with the trailer for BioShock Infinite, and we are all agog at its tantalizing genius.
  • John Carmack is just showing off now...with Rage for the iPhone.
  • Zenimax buys Arkane Studios. More ridiculously deep and interesting games on the way?
  • Adam hosted a panel with some of the titans of blockbuster gaming at QuakeCon.
  • Is Gearbox the new home of the perennially elusive Duke Nukem Forever?
  • Double Fine is partnering with THQ to release some new downloadable games, including one called Costume Quest.
  • How much is too much when it comes to stuff you get in an exclusive edition of a video game?

Whew! That's a lot of stuff.

Feedback: Where we play all 80's...all the time.

She killed a PS3. Been there, done that. 3 times. I've only had to fix my 360 once.

Bioshock is in the Bio-punk genre. The setting doesn't matter as much as the feel and themes and mythology. It's bio-tech and genetics in some sort of radical society. It can be on Mars and they call it the same thing(which would be cool as the first colony on Mars using bio-tech to adept quicker). And it looks awesome.

    Great Belle & Sebastian reference!

The camera work has vastly improved with the addition of the tripod the guy behind Abbie was using. No more weird angles.

So I don't know if this is the place to post this or what... But, I've been formulating this idea for a while now and have been having trouble articulating it... Anyways

In the wake of things like, what I'm just going to call, "The Roger Ebert Scenario"; and games like Limbo I wonder if we as gamers are actually hindering our own acceptance as a part of culture by calling our pastime "Games" (generally regarded as the the leisure activities of young children), thus stating to the outside world that they're not to be taken seriously. I wonder, then, if it might be in our own best interest to try to brand ourselves as "interactive entertainment" which would branch out many different ways from actual "games" to the compelling stories presented in endeavors such as Shadow of the Colossus and Limbo?

Obscure, you keep using that word. I do not think that it means what you think it means. I don't find Bible and Dickens references in any way obscure.

I have to ask when you guys at Feedback brings up disappointing endings you always seem to bring up Fallout 3. X-Play's game of the year, Fable II had an ending as bad as Fallout 3 (imo, Fable II ending is worse) . At least in Fallout 3 you can get a DLC that will allow you to continue your journey on the wasteland.

The comparison Cage made to pornography wasn't in reference to quality so much as it was to structure, specifically referring to the wall that exists between gameplay and story in any game that tells story through cutscenes. Use of cutscenes to tell a story isn't really a full utilization of the medium, it's not telling a story through a game, it's kind of like having a game and then having several short films interspersed to give that game a context.

To be honest to there comment about hating on the xbox... I have all the consoles and the xbox lasted the longest out of all of them. My 360 lasted 3 1/2 years, my ps3 (slim 120 GB) lasted two hours, and the Wii lasted a week then had disk problems.
