BlackBerry Torch 9800 Review »

BlackBerry reboot is finally here with the Torch 9800 and its 3.2" touch screen, slide out keyboard, new BlackBerry 6 OS, Universal Search, 5 megapixel camera, 8G of storage and more for only $100 with a contract. Kevin Pereira and Alison Haislip review all the new features that BlackBerry Torch 9800 has to offer.

What You Need To Know

  • The Torch is one of the thinnest and lightest phones with a full QWERTY keyboard.
  • It's only 0.57" thick and weighs about 5.5 ounces.
  • It easily slides into your pocket and features an updated sleek design.
  • The slide out keyboard is easy to use and spacious enough so you'll rarely make any errors, but there's also an onscreen keyboard as well.
  • This is the first BlackBerry to feature a normal touch screen (unlike the Storm), a keyboard and the new BlackBerry 6 OS.
  • This phone implements both smart phone features and what BlackBerry fans are accustomed to using.
  • You can navigate with the touch pad or use the 3.2" touch screen, which is quite responsive.
  • The BlackBerry 6 OS has a new streamlined interface, allowing you to easily access applications via swiping and scrolling.
  • All the standard features are included, as well as an updated browser, Social Feeds, and Universal Search, all of which work as intended.
  • The browser loads in a decent amount of time compared to the iPhone 4 or Droid X but the pinch and zoom is a little sluggish.
  • The Social Feeds app aggregates all of your social networks, but it may be too much to handle.
  • The Universal Search application works fine but this is a standard app that other smart phones already have.
  • There's also a 5 megapixel camera/video camera with auto focus and flash.
  • The quality is mediocre, but it comes with face detection and different shooting modes for indoors, outdoors and sporting activities.

  • $100 with a contract through Amazon.

  • 3 Seals of Approval out of 5 for general consumers. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • For new BlackBerry users, this is a must buy for the price with the new features.
  • It's still not as fast or has any many apps as an iPhone or Android phone, but if you prefer BlackBerry's design, then go for it.
