I'll admit it: When Peter Molyneux introduced the Milo tech-demo at E3 2009, I was among the many who made jokes about potential uses for the little-boy simulator. But I'm not laughing anymore.
Peter Molyneux recently gave a TED talk where he went a little more in-depth on what Milo is and how it works, and it's a lot less like a joke and a lot more like unbridled awesome. I get it now... I could see how you could use Kinect to create a truly unique gaming experience. See if this talk doesn't change your mind too.

its all very impressive but motion controls are still just a gimmick. there isn't anything here that can't be done with a controller.

Dear Peter Molyneux, stop playing with Milo and get back to work on B.C. that or actually come through with one if not the millions of promises you make on all of the Fable games.

Peter Molyneux the British version Steve Jobs
Please don't hate I mean no offense the guy has a visionary mindset. Just listening to him talk reminds me of one of my lectures I use to get in high school Zzz u_u

So now we know to thank Peter for when the robots take over. Do these people learn nothing?

The project itself is interesting not because it's a fairly obvious pedo-simulator, but because of the doors it could open if applied elsewhere. Like many other of the kinect projects coming out, this could serve to assist one's health and well being. Say you are agoraphobic, or have social anxiety issues, have a few weekly sessions with a "game" like this, try and work out whatever problems you got with people. Or a more "core" use for this would be fairly obvious when applied to a FPS like Call of Duty, or Fallout, or Elder Scrolls where you could offer some "unique" interactions with the game's AI, issuing commands with your voice and hand signals would also open up more buttons on an actual controller to be used for whatever you'd feel like really, new moves, item windows, etc. But for the most part I don't see many real blockbuster titles being develope solely on the back of kinect.

I definitely think Kinect is a fail. But not for the reasons you think. You know I think Kinect is a great Idea, fully integrating you in the game. The problem is caring about profit. The cameras on Kinect are cheap and they are actually worse than the PSeye. What needed to happen was more complex equipment. Better cameras or more cameras, improved sensors. This is the wii version I think the next evolution of this will be awesome but because its a add-on and not a stand alone (Quality) device its crap.

This is another reason why I'm really excited about the Kinect. I have a strong feeling that there is a lot more to this device then Microsoft is telling us about. Based off the Milo demo alone, this thing is capable of doing a lot more than just controller free gaming. Can't wait until this November to pick one up!!

I'm looking for innovation and I get what he's saying it is smoke and mirrors. It's meant to make you feel like you control a world more than you do. The whole thing seems to be scripted, how you react to Milo and what he does makes you feel like you have control when you don't. It has a system like Heavy Rain, except like he numerous people said he reacts to the tone of voice not exactly what you say. Like if you tell him to burn the house down in a soft melodious way he'll be like aww thank you. And if you tell him he's the best person in the world in a mean tone he'll be like screw you. It makes you think your in control when in actuality it's all scripted. Set reactions will lead towards good or bad and everything in between. This many bad things means hell be a lawyer, this many a serial killer. I think this a perfect step to take and by all mean it is awesome but I hope if he gets older you get some not so black and white choices. Like he gets a sis and you can pull her hair cause she broke your stuff or leave her alone or try to explain to her whats wrong. I think it would take a long time to make it work. Heavy Rain took 4 years and if it does take that long I just hope Microsoft has the balls to say keep working on it and not just scrap it.

What if I were to say something mean when I'm supposed to be encouraging him?

So were' Milo's Imaginary friend

What sort of tool squishes innocent little snails?!?! I don't like Milo any more!

I wonder what would happen if you yelled at him or something where your not nice to him once. In the video the guy would say stuff to cheer him up, but Milo just said something else that was on his mind or scripted. What im trying to say is that what if you say something spontaneous, would he recognize that or would he ignore it say my parents suck.

Milo seemed pretty cool at E3. Seeing what is being done with that is really impressive. Giving Milo a story and a problem really make Milo seem more like an experience than a mind-bending tech demo.

Wow, that s truly amazing how far we have gotten in the video game industry. I for one am oppressed
roehn117
ive always thought this was an amazing feat and we are more rapidly reaching true Artificial Intelligence i just hope one day this will actually be released for kinect

Not completely sold on Kinect and only see myself buying a Wii later when I get the money to fill my motion-controlled gaming. Still looking at this though shows the potential Kinect and games have in the future. With it being AI or an actual game that catches our attentions for a more hardcore based game. I'm sure there will be great things to come. Only time will tell.
