If you were under the same impression as just about everyone else that X-Men: First Class had already found its Emma Frost in She's Out of My League's Alice Eve -- think again! According to a report from Deadline, the role of the X-Universe's sexy lingerie-wearing telepath has been given to Mad Men star January Jones. Best known as the acclaimed series' scorned Stepford-esque domestic diva Betty Draper (now Francis,) Jones will have to make a mighty u-turn from her signature character's inhibited nature and become the manipulative and powerful seductress also known as The White Queen, oozing sexuality on screen. As if the whirlwind casting process of this film had not been enough of a conundrum, we're undoubtedly left scratching our heads right now.
The question remains if Alice Eve was ever meant to be Emma Frost or if she was tapped to play someone else this whole time. Deadline reported that no deal was concluded with Eve. However, her alleged involvement had been practically gospel for a while, with no publicity effort to shoot said rumor down. It's actually a similar ball of confusion to the one regarding the role of Xavier's love interest Moira MacTaggart. At one point, it was presumably filled by former Bond Girl Rosamund Pike (Who, herself was rumored for the Frost role at one point.) However, recent revelations have the role going to Aussie actress Rose Byrne.
Regardless, amid the chaos, Jones will presumably join the already monolithic cast headlined by James McAvoy's Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, and Kevin Bacon's mysterious villain. With other "still hot off the press" additions in Oliver Platt as the "Man in Black," Zoe Kravitz as Angel, Bill Milner as young Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Morgan Lily as young Mystique, and Jason Flemying as Azazel, director Mathew Vaughn is going to need CliffsNotes to get all of this straight.
One thing is for sure; the June 3, 2011 projected release date is looming ever closer. A little over 9 months is not a lot of time to get a movie of this scope shot, touched, and released. At this point, the next bit of news about First Class needs to be that it's actually filming, rather than adding 50 more mutants to the fold. The X-Mansion is at full capacity, folks.

First of all, I was literally looking at the value of my emma frost collection before i read this. Not very valuable. Second, how the hell are they going to release this movie by June 3rd next year? That doesn't seem possible to do any xmen movie that quick. And third, that projected release date is my birthday. I'm totally going to see this for my bday if it's released on time. Just kidding. Or am I? idk

January Jones clearly is a better actress. Plus she fits the wasp role real well. But I still question the movie canon's timeline now. from Wolverine origins we had a young emma frost now she is late 20's? How old is cyclops gonna be then? and who? (dun dun DUUUUnn!)

I honestly don't think I've ever seen a movie with more ridiculous and jumbled up casting news than First Class. Every week we have at least one announcement or rumor, haha. I'll tell you this much, they're definitely keeping the hype around the film this way. In any case, Eve might look the part more than January Jones but Jones is clearly a better actress.
