PlayStation 3

Today, Sony announced that a PlayStation 3 with a 320 GB harddrive is coming. The new PS3 will be bundled with Move, a Playstation Eye camera, a copy of Sports Champions, and bonus Blu-ray game demo disc for $399.99

The smaller PS3 will feature a 160 GB drive and will run you $299.99.

Here's an interesting quote from Sony's press release:

"With the launch of PlayStation Move just around the corner, we're expecting many new consumers to join the PlayStation family. The PS3 Sports Champions Move bundle provides those families with everything they need to get into motion control gaming at a great value, with the 320GB model PS3 system as the centerpiece of the package," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of product marketing. "Also, as PlayStation Network continues to evolve with exciting new services, the hunger for digital content grows; these larger storage capacities address that demand and encourage consumers to take full advantage of the complete PS3 experience."

It's obvious Sony is aiming this release squarely at families. My question: You're all in families, right? If you didn't already have a PS3, would your family drop nearly 400 bucks on a Move-enabled system? Mine would, at my urging, but the difference is, I make half the income, so I can make those kinds of decisions.

I think that sony needs to fix its internet problems. Facebook or Twitter will not work properly on the PS3 but I have been a fan of Playstation since 2000 so I will not be switching but they need to talk to microsoft so that they can learn what they need to do or I might switch.........NOT! LOL.

Hey people was paying 400 bucks 4 the PS3 when it was just 80GB drive and thats with out the move. So I say If U don't have a PS3 (Which I don't know Y not) or like 2 upgrade your drive this is a cool deal.

If they would offer full backwards compatibility, a Move starter kit, and about the same size hard drive (if not 500 GB), and just focus on making that model... I can dream. >.>

Had to think this was coming. Seeing as how Japan just got this PS3 model maybe about a couple of weeks ago, and Microsoft just dropped the price of all 360 models overall by $50 bucks. I've gotta give kudos to Sony. This is actually a bundle that makes me want to buy Move. 320 GB with Move for $399.99, and even if I don't want Move, the console alone's just $299.99, now that's a great buy. And to think, I was thinking of wasting $349.99 on a 250 GB PS3.

My brother doesn't have a PS3 yet and he is interested in Move. So it isn't JUST geared towards families.

PS: Stephen got Playstation Eye correct!

My brother, who's a casual gamer, has been thinking about getting a PS3 lately for his family because he likes it's multimedia capabilities. Telling him there's a $399 sku that has a 320gb hard drive plus the Move bundle... that's a no brainer I would think...

I put a 320GB in my PS3 a while ago and I have 180GB left. I'm cutting through it really fast.

I have a problem understanding why we need 320GB , i have about 4500 pictures and over 50 movies, 2500+ songs and a hell of a lot of game save data on my current ps3 (80GB) and i have yet to use more then 15GB total space with all of that. It seems like overkill. Can anyone give me an example of them filling up the memory on their ps3?

The 160 GB bundle sounds great but the family market that they are trying to sell this to wont buy a 320 GB bundle.

To answer Stephen's question: No, I don't see anyone in my immediate or extended family (who are a part of the new casual market) paying that much to get a PS3 w/Move. They would see it as the same as a Wii which is cheaper. The Wii has shown the casual market puts price above all else. The PS3 w/Move is a more powerful machine with HD, better graphics, and better online but I don't think those things are enough to make someone new to gaming pick it over the cheaper Wii. I also don't see the new casual market who have already bought a Wii look to buy yet another console which looks to do the same thing as what they already have. I've heard more excitement from non-gaming friends and family about Kinect than Move just because Kinect is something they haven't seen before. We can make all the arguments we want about how it's not anything new or the Move isn't the same as the Wii but the casual market which these things are geared to are only gonna know what they see in the store when they go to make the purchase which is: A cheap Wii, PS3 w/Move which looks like a more expensive Wii, or Kinect which looks different than the other 2 options.
