At QuakeCon today during the Brink presentation Paul Wedgewood, CEO of Splash Damage and game director for the title, unveiled all of the pre-order exclusives that the game will have with different retailers. These include clothing, guns, and body mods, and some of them come from other Bethesda and id games to keep it all in the family.
Part of the appeal of Brink is the robust character customization in the game, and these special pre-order items are meant to be "brag" items that tell other people that you were of the early adopters, poised on the Brink. Take a look below at what you'll get.

In some cases (like this one), pre order bonuses amount to little more than extra fluff for 'bragging rights', but in other games (like Mass Effect) they give the player an added extra that can really make a difference in playing the game. In either case it is up to the consumer as to whether they want to give companies a 'little extra' income to use for the length of the pre-order. Remember pre-order cash (or credit) can be placed in 'short yield' accounts to generate interest, which in large companies can add up to a nice chunk of free change.
The pre order gear I pick up in Mass Effect made a real difference in how the game was played and the choices the player could make (as to class, amour, etc.). Since there was no on-line component in Mass Effect, there was no real impact on the over all game (since a single player could decide NOT to use what was given), but should any of these extras translate into an on-line advantage then making them available ONLY through pre-order can create an unbalanced situation.

The pre-order bonuses are getting very tired. It's really a poor attempt now at getting larger quantities pushed out the door at release date. I understand the concept of this (more sales obviously mean more money for the dev/publish teams) but I'm just sick of it.
The last game I pre-ordered was Alan Wake and I did so at a local store which actually gives a discount on the purchase price rather than giving a bonus in game item.

check out the return policies, like i think amazon u can return it but i think it may cost you the return shipping, gamestop they print the code on the receipt so ask for a gift receipt when you pick up the game and return it with the gift receipt at another gamestop the next day. Best Buy usually has the preorder bonuses in cases or boxes and u get them when you pre order it so if you want ur $5 back just pick it up and return it also the nest day and im not sure about walmart i hate that store its ghetto

Wow, kinda gay. i dont want to buy 3 copies just to get all of this. Idk about you guys but im the kinda person who is all in when it comes to having outfits and add ons... this is kinda depressing because they all look great but you only get one.

Anybody notice that the Gamestop and Best Buy DLCs have gun skins, while the Amazon and Walmart DLCs have actual guns?
I've got the game preordered at Gamestop, but I might be changing my mind if there really is this gun/gun skin difference. Why would I want some lousy gun skins when I can get an actual gun as DLC?
