id Software head John Carmack announced during QuakeCon 2010 today that multiple iPhone games based on his team’s upcoming apocalyptic shooter Rage will be released over the next year.
Carmack demoed the 60 frames-per-second tech demo version of Rage on his iPhone before announcing that the first title will be released by the end of the year, with the second one to follow next year closer to the launch of the console and PC versions of the game.
Based on what I saw of the demo (thanks to the QuakeCon 2010 live stream), it was definitely impressive. And while it was running on an iPhone 4, Carmack assured attendees that the game will run well even on an original 2G iPhone.

While I applaud Carmack for finding a way to put a next-gen FPS on the iphone, I can't help but question how the gameplay would turn out by being reduced to a touchscreen.

The word Genius doesn't do Carmack justice here. Anyone got any ideas to a title that suits him? Lets see... how about Technical God? Yea that might work

Wow that is pretty impressive, not going to lie.

Carmack is the man. This dude will jump into a code and beat the crap out of it until it does what he wants. Hence Rage on the iPhone looking like a PS3 game. Damn, this guy is good. Real good. I can not wait!
