The mystery of Project Icarus has finally been solved, as Ken Levine and his team at Irrational Games, the mad geniuses behind BioShock (when they were formerly known as 2K Boston), have unveiled their next gorgeously detailed and delightfully terrifying endeavor, BioShock Infinite.
The game is set in 1912, and takes place aboard, if that’s the right word, flying city of Columbia, which looks to be the spiritual and philosophical antithesis to Andrew Ryan’s failed underwater utopia of Rapture. Players assume the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who has been tasked with tracking down the telekinetically gifted Elizabeth, the figure at the heart of the overarching conflict tearing Columbia apart.
BioShock Infinite is set for release in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

One of my favorite parts of these games is the story and the references to the government and how the government can be corrupted and i am glad to see that they may have kept that whole aspect of the game just from watching the trailer.

I'm soo excited for BioShock Infinite. BioShock is my favorite game of all time and unless they completely and horribly ruin it i will always stay true to the BioShock Games.

If you crashed a plane into Rapture, an underwater city, will you crash a submarine into Columbia?

This time setting is different to Rapture. So essentially, this is a prequel to the events of Rapture.

Ken Levine is back!!

I've also found a lot of people upset about all the light as opposed to Rapture's undersea darkness, saying it won't be as scary or intense. Think about it, when you've been running around in a dark setting for too long, the caution and worry you get from it tends to wear off. You also feel like you have no choice in the matter of being safe in the light or exploring the dark. You're ALWAYS in the dark.
Infinite offers a new theme. The contrast from light to dark is so striking that you may hesitiate to run back into the dark buildings once finding yourself outside. Outside you can see all around you. No dark corners or scary monsters in the shadows. Why would you want to fall back into the dark? Because the story must progress and you must venture on. This pattern of going from the light to the dark renews that fear of what is in those shadows and that relief you feel in the light.
However that does not mean the light is completely safe. I'm expecting plenty of challenges and obsticals in the bright environments. No time for resting.
In the end, I think the light is a welcome new twist and a needed element in the world of Bioshock. What I'm trying to say is don't expect to rush right back into the dark corridors after being given a taste of freedom in the sunlight.

Is it at all possible to let the title 'Bioshock' stay as an indication of the universe? I know Rapture was a big obvious stable in the previous games but we have to remember the other aspects that made Bioshock what it was: Deep rich story and characters, unique art style and visual appeal, familiar historical reference in a fantastical world just real enough to believe in, suspensful and sometimes horrifying situations.
From what this teaser shows, we can look forward to what we loved in the originals, even if the setting and story have changed. Its still the universe we love with monsters, powers, mystery, and wonder. Irrational did well with Rapture. I think we can expect the same and even more from Columbia.
Let's share 'Bioshock' with this universe we love and let it expand past the deep, dark, dank halls of Rapture to new 'heights". So what if Columbia is different or has no connection to Rapture (which it may, so settle down :P). If you can play through Infinite and say "That feels like Bioshock" shouldn't it have a title that confirms that feeling?
Anyway, loved the previous two games, liked the trailer, looking forward to future updates.

The true follow up to the original. Thank you Ken Levine! BioShock 2 just didn't cut it for me and so many others.

The word bioshock has nothing to do with water. It has to do with the body and the plasmids. I think we will learn how they made them in this game.I cant wait till i can play it

looks pretty intense i agree that their milking the franchise just a little more but it would be a bit of redemption since the last bioshock game wasnt as good as the 1st,im sure there will be big daddys but with a new look and possible different name, if you see the beginning of the trailer you can see the character getting destroyed by a big daddy or something similar with hearts on them,as far as splicers go its hard to say but i def wanna see more about this maybe some gameplay, ill give this a chance

This looks interesting. I should keep my eyes on this. about time for me to finish the first 2 titles.

I've already beat both bioshocks and I still play them more than any game I have, at least the campaign. They're both great games and I hope this one lives up to the previous two. It looks kick ass.
If there's anything I learned from the first two bioshocks, it's that the outside looks better than the inside. It looks like it will keep a similar atmosphere in this game. I mean, he was being tortured in the beginning in a dark room by some Big Daddy-like machine. So I don't think the atmosphere of this game is going to be all sunshine and roses.

Its official Bioshock just jumped the shark. RIP.

I am just so amused that people keep complaining about the name of all things.. it cant be bioshock! there is no water! oh my god. Bio means Biology which means just about everything living.. where as Systemshock you delt with a deranged AI. Bioshock you delt with deranged life.. Bio has nothing to do with 'water' per say, but more to do with the enemies in it. At least thats my take on it. I'll definitely be getting this game.

WIN.

Funny, i had no interest in the last 2 bioshocks, but this one grabs my interest more.
Look.. like it might be different.
