When will the gaming world tire of stories about a sequel to Duke Nukem? It's been 20 years (!) since the original game was released, but it's apparently so enmeshed in gamers' consciousnesses that every rumor, scrap of news and broken promise still resonates. Well, here's today's Duke Nukem news:
According to unnamed sources quoted by gaming blog Kotaku, Gearbox, the company that brought you Borderlands, is reviving the game, and a playable demo will be released later this year.
Much like the X-Files, I want to believe, and the evidence is at least plausible...
- Gearbox was developing now scrapped game Duke Begins.
- Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford declined to comment to Kotaku, but did say he may be able to "better clarify the situation further" at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle over Labor Day Weekend.
- Gearbox and Duke Nukem would be a perfect fit.
- It would be pretty awesome.
Okay, not the most solid case ever made, but I can't help but hold out hope. No matter how many times my dreams have been dashed in the past, the thought of gaming's greatest piece of vaporware actually being released still makes me happy... only thing is, how could it ever measure up to the hype?
What about you? Do you even still care about this long-dormant franchise?

Okay, to all you young pups scratching your heads and saying bad things about Duke Nukem here is what you need to know. Duke Nukem 3d was an awesome game almost a revolutionary FPS, it was one of the 1st FPS's to use mouse controls and it's graphics was top notch(for it's time). I would love to see this game released and why not? Can it hurt anything if we did get a new DN game? At least it would prove once and for all if the DN franchise is still good.
Plus we hardcore love the old joke "how long has Duke Nukem Forever been in development... FOREVER!"
justanothergamer300
So many other FPS's are coming so I hope it's not lost with the crowd
DreamingDarklyRobin
Maybe now it will actually get finished and be good.
CLFresh
how funny would this be if it comes out and makes halo/cod look like the original doom HAH itd be awesome tho
Vote4Goat
this game is goin to be like reviving the plauge. u just cant tell if its goin to be a good thing or a bad thing. the game was one of the only reason gameing is as big as it is today. a true orginal hero of the classics. that and it had nudity

Maybe we all just misunderstood, and "Duke Nukem Forever" is the title of a meta-game the game development community is playing. The goal would obviously be to keep rumors about a fictional game afloat FOREVER.

I love Borderlands and Gearbox would definitely do an awesome job if this turns out to be true. The only thing is that there is no way that ANY game can live up to 20 years of hype. I really hope this is true, but I'm doubtful.
BONERJAM
I'll believe it when I see it, which will continue to be never.

"only thing is, how could it ever measure up to the hype?"
How bout the fact that it's being made by some folks who brought us the plucky fun of Borderlands. I'm sold.
RookieBrawler
What "hype"?
All every news media site has done is slam DNF for the past 5 years. I thnik everyone forgets that Duke Nukem 3D was actually a great game. I doubt DNF will ever come, but in the hands of a talented developer like Gearbox, it would be excellent!
gambitjuggalo
even if it does come out it would have to be the most amazing game ever created to justify all the times there was a news article saying it was back in production then just goes away. leaving many gamers with a big hole in their lives

please shut up!

YES! FINALLY! Duke Nukem 3d was seriously one of the best game I ever played. Its to bad the maker of Duke Nukem 3d was a complete bum I saw interviews with him by people and they said what have you been doing and he said " A lot of coke, hookers and WoW" and at that moment I realized what took so long, the project was headed by a lazy bum
FatKidsLagIRL
"There is only two ways this can end.... and in both of them, you die....." Cant wait, loved Duke Nukem back then, i'm sure ill love it agains soon :D
StarWars_Enigma
Aparently there was a playable part of it before and the person who played said "Definitely worth the 12 year hype, It was that good" (Look on wikipedia for quote) so maybe it will be worth. I never played the first one but if DNF does end up coming out, I will definitely be looking into it
DevilishBoredom
I'm not gonna bite on this one until I see a case with a game inside sittin on store shelves. By now, if you mention that you're going to make a game titled "Duke Nukem Forever" you will be laughed at. Now if they went with another title, I could (maybe) see it. lol

I hope this comes out sooooo badly, I played them all as a kid and loved them.
drypulse
am i the only one that realized duke nukem was terrible when i played it?
Wrathofsauron
if this turns out to be a mediocre forgetable game, i will cry.no really, i will.
duhreetoh
Valve is gonna feel really silly when this comes out before Halflife 3.
