You RPG fans remember Neverwinter Nights, right? The PC game with the D&D ruleset remains one of the best games in the genre ever made, and although followups didn't rise to the level of the original, it's still beloved, as much for the game as the active mod community that sprung up around it. Well, folks, there's a rumor going around that MMO-producers Cryptic are working on a Neverwinter Nights MMO.
The rumor springs from a comment made at GenCon by an Atari producer. Apparently, he said an announcement is coming about "some kind of D&D video game but they couldn’t talk about it here." If you add that to the fact that Atari owns a bunch of domain names like neverwinter-game.co, and the fact that Cryptic plans to announce its newest project this summer, throw in a pinch of internet-hopefulness, and you end up with rumors of a Neverwinter Night MMO.
The G4 super-rumor-computer says there's a 58 percent chance that this true, but added, "No one can be sure of anything in this crazy, mixed-up world."
Whether Neverwinter Night Online is a good idea, were it to happen, remains to be seen, of course...
