There can be only one King of Kong. Colorful hot sauce mogul and old-school gaming legend Billy Mitchell was officially given the world record for the original arcade version of Donkey Kong, with a score of 1,062,800 points. He then went on to take the Donkey Kong Jr. prize with a score of 1,270,900.
Never one to resist a flourish, in both games, Mitchell reportedly stopped playing and allowed his character to die after he beat the current high score, explaining it thusly: “Some say I’m being cocky. Some say I’m being lazy. I say, I’m being Billy Mitchell." (Have you ever noticed how only AWESOME people refer to themselves in the third person? Stephen Johnson has.)
Of the DK victory, Mitchell said, “I remember a lot of celebration; hugs, kisses and a lot of hooting and hollering. Once that died down, stood there looking at Donkey Kong Jr. and thought ‘there’s one more thing I have to take care of’."
It's one thing to be good at a video game, but another to have developed mental and physical systems of being achieving amazingness. Billy Mitchell has done that. Steve Weibe breaks the record and Mitchell rearend lickers don't recognize it, but Ultimate Cheater Bill submits a doctored video and lo and behold it's accepted.

To everyone talking about Steven Weibe, note that Billy Mitchell took the high score from Hank Chien who held the record beforehand. Chien said he was inspired by the movie The King of Kong, which is a must-see documentary about human obsession, to start with DK. Weibe comes off in that film as a truly nice guy but he wasn't the record holder as some of you thought.

That whole scene that Wiebe stepped into is a group of sycophants who are cowtowing to this Mitchell guy. If I had been in Wiebe's shoes, I would have disappeared the very instant I discovered they were questioning the circuit board due to having a history with the guy who sold Wiebe the board. Already there's enough 'political' bullshirt going on to have made me run screaming from the room. Good for films, unhealthy for Wiebe.

I'm rather surprised the article was so complementary of Mitchell...maybe they were just being sarcastic. I don't see how anyone could even be in the same room as him and not think he's a total douche. Every word he utters is arrogant garbage. I prefer the article at gameinformer.com regarding this...at least they were accurate in their assessment of him ;)

I'd also like to add to my first post that I never said Wiebe wasn't good, I just said that Mitchell was good too, he does have the current world record, and if anything will inspire Wiebe or any other challenger for the matter. Basically, I was stating in relation to unfungames' post that the king of kong movie was, even though a documentary primarily, also painted a face/heel character similar to what pro wrestling does. The movie painted Wiebe as the good guy, and Mitchell the bad guy in an effort to give both guys as well as Twin Galaxies more media exposure, which actually is a good thing as like I said before it helps advertise arcade games and video game world records. Mitchell and Wiebe are both the top 2 Donkey Kong players in the world and I'm not going to call one guy cool or a jerk without knowing them personally, it's just that I did my research in what manner the movie was presented in, even the director himself said the same thing about the movie. I don't care that I got thumbed down for a comment that had a good amount of factual backing to it, but people just need to do a little research on movies. Mickey Rourke played a bad guy in Iron Man 2 but it doesn't mean he himself is bad because of it. Basically, even if Mitchell really is a jerk, it still doesn't take away from is gaming ability. Like unfungames also said, Mitchell deserves at least some credit.
