The first details on the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum were revealed this morning. First off, the game will be called Batman: Arkham City, and it will launch on the PS3, PC and 360 in Fall 2011.
As for the story, not many details were revealed, but we know that it takes place in a heavily armed Arkham City, where your favorite Batman villains and thugs are running rampant. Arkham City is apparently a walled-off portion of Gotham City itself, and we can expect a new cast of classic characters and villains as well as new and enhanced gameplay features.
So far, confirmed villains for the game include Mr. Freeze, Catwoman, and that ultimate Batman baddy, The Joker.
The only negative in this story is the wait time. As a huge fan of Arkham Asylum, I don't know if I'll be able to handle waiting around for more than a year, but I guess quality takes time, and the long lead-time indicates that this game is likely to be the antithesis of shovelware.

I'd love it if it was open world, Asylum looks great but I have not played it yet because I am not too fond of super-hero games that arn't open world. Don't get me wrong I will play it eventually, but an open world really makes super-hero games shine.

This game definitely needs some Batmobile action. I'm kinda worried about whether Rocksteady can pull it off, as racing/driving aspects of these kinds of games usually end up being clunky and kind of an afterthought. Hopefully they only add it if they feel they can pull off something that actually adds to the game instead of just having driving for the sake of having it.
I liked how AA was build... kind of open in the sense that you could pretty much go anywhere at any time to pick up the riddler puzzles, but linear in terms of the story. That's how this one needs to be. Climbing the rooftops of Arkham City is a must in this one.
Hopefully they can match or even exceed the awesomeness of AA.

Why do all the games I want to play always get pushed back??

I have 1000/1000 GS for AA. I love that game, and I am going to max out this one too.

Man, first the Bioshock single-player DLC news, then this. Great start to the day for a gamer! I'm glad to hear that they are keeping Batman within a confined space, similar to Arkham Asylum. I was afraid that it would be a sandbox type of game when the trailer showed Gotham City. Walling off a part of the city (which I assume is completely controlled by the Arkham crazies again), is a great idea. Easily one of my most anticipated games of next year. Hate we have to wait another year for it, but there's certainly enough AAA titles to keep me busy over the next year.
