As some may recall, rumors recently started to spread about Chuck's Zachary Levi secretly auditioning for a role in the next Superman movie, presumably to play the Man of Steel himself. Well, one person that didn't seem to get the memo on that one was...Zachary Levi. Speaking to IGN last week at NBC's party over at the Television Critics Association press tour, the actor definitively shot-down the rumor which spread like wildfire last month. However, that is not to say that he wouldn't be open to the possibility of donning a wacky-colored spandex costume of some kind for a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster. In fact, in the interview, he reveals his attempts at doing such.
On the Superman rumors, Levi states "It's complete fiction. A bummer that it's complete fiction!" However, it was in reaction to the rumors that Levi reveals some fears about his status in the "geek" community.
"So I go and read all these comments, and even comments on IMDB. To me, it's interesting. The vast majority are like 'He couldn't be Superman!' And I'm like, 'All right! I get it!'" Levi noted that even those who were fans of his and of Chuck were writing, "I love Zach, but he's no Superman." Adding: "I guess one of the things that I fear is that people pigeonhole me in the nerd role."
This may be something that legitimately frustrates him, since, as he claims, he is "such a nerd about this stuff." He discusses his unsuccessful attempts to get on board the comic book movie train, with nothing panning out for a role in The Green Lantern and having to drop out of Thor (in which he was cast as Fandral) due to commitments to Chuck when its third season was extended by six episodes. However, he's still not giving up that easily. He's calling out all his online critics and would-be casting directors:
"A lot them say, 'Well, I can see him as Clark Kent, but I can't see me as Supes.'" Levi laughed, adding, "I'm an actor! Just give me six months and a gym. Give me something! I guess one of the upsides is that people are going, 'I can believe him as Wally West. Make him The Flash! I can believe that!' Which would be amazing."
Speaking as one the folks who said he'd just make a perfect Clark Kent, I have to say that the assessment was based not on his skills an an actor, but on looks, alone. We're used to Superman having a certain type of facial structure that reflects, for better or worse, a classical "all-american" aesthetic. It's an extremely critical part of his mystique and it's simply not an attribute that matches Zachary Levi. However, I would love to see him get his wish and land the prestigious part of a comic hero. In fact, I hope for his sake, that his agent is hounding director Edgar Wright, because Levi would be an absolutely perfect fit for Henry Pym, aka Ant-Man in the upcoming Avengers follow-up.
Do you see Zachary Levi breaking free from Chuck-related nerd type-casting?

If he shaved his head like he did in hitman and acts like he did in die hard 4, Timothy Olyphant would be a perfect Lex Luthor.

make some DIFFERENT. try a super man that is not all big, tall, and muscular. the reason i dont watch most of these comic movies is because its the same thing with new actors and better CG. the movies that are different than the originals have been doing WAY better than the remakes.

I could see Tom Welling but its hard 2 imagine him in the suit after seeing him in a BA black trenchcoat and black shirt.

As much as i like zach, tom welling has been playing superman 4 8 years!!!!!
The Emperor's Champion
I think it may be time to just finally give Tom Welling the part of Superman. I mean he's been to the edge and back as Clark god knows how many times now.

Jon Hamm for Superman!

I think what's holding back the Superman movie is the fact that everyone wants someone that even moderately resembles Christopher Reeves (hence Brandon Routh being cast as Supes). Personally I think many people in Hollywood and in the community (movie and comics) needs to move past that. Zachary Levi as Superman? I honestly can see that working out but if Hollywood could stop searching for a Christopher Reeves look-a-like then I think the movie could move forward and a new, better script can be written. I heard David S. Goyer had a killer Superman script that involved Lex and Brainiac and Nolan's brother (Christopher Nolan) wanted to direct it.

Brandon Routh is perfect but ditch the dumb suit and make it a bit better traditional color but darker blue and better S. Better director and script written. OR.. let the next Superman movie be Smallville crossover :D With Tom Welling.

Not too be too much of a nerd here, but Edgar Wright? Isn't Joss Whedon directing the Avengers? Or did I miss something.

Chuck's brother in law, Captain Awesome should play Supes. He looks the part and his taller than Routh!
Krypton
Bring Brandon Routh back on board for the reboot.

i think its actually very ironic that this rumor came to be, and chuck had brandon routh guest star, winner gets to be superman. lol

I think Brandon Routh deserves a 2nd shot with a better script. He was good in Chuck season 3 when he guest stared.

I think Zach could do a good job as Clark, but he'd need to go to the gym to be Superman. But I think he'd be better than Brandon Routh's Superman, cause on Chuck, Zach beat Brandon.
lilkray2thebone
that Rooth guy should play superman.. he did a great job imo.. as superman and as clark.. he really reminded me of reeves clark character
