Review: Castlevania: Harmony of Despair "Think of it as a retro-style throwback more than a modern-day reboot."

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair

There's a new Castlevania coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade. Available August 4th, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is a co-op focused title that--at first--may not look like it has a lot to offer hardcore fans of the series; however, the game is surprisingly deep according to our reviewer, Scott Alan Marriott:

"What looks on the surface to be a significantly scaled-down version of Castlevania is actually quite deep. By stripping away nearly all of the downtime associated with inventory management, map viewing, and stat monitoring, the developers have kept the action moving at a brisk clip. Yet the diversity in equipment, spells, weapons, and character-specific techniques is what keeps you coming back, as you'll never know what's lurking within a particular treasure chest. Completing all six levels also unlocks a "hard" setting that truly lives up to its billing, enhancing the replay value even further."

Meh calm down ya microsoft haters, this game sucks anyways. Here's how it works, you buy the game play it for a bit and you're like wow this is fun, then you go online people join your game and pretty much solo everything for you, I sat there as one guy soloed all of normal and hard mode for me and my friend online and we didn't do a thing but sit at the spawn, anyways after that you just get more people to farm gear for you or proceed to wishing microsoft gave refunds, the game is a big zerg rush, there is absolutely no challenge.

If you do get this game take my advice and only play it with your friends if you want some fun out of this title. Although that probably won't work, I tried this and all of my friends just farmed gear while I was offline and got sick of this game in less than 3 days, it saddens me but as much as I like castlevania I must say konami does NOT know how to do multiplayer.

Fear not dear Sony friends, back in June Koji Igarashi said in an interview on Destructoid that Harmony of Despair may make its way to the PlayStation Network if it sells well on Xbox Live Arcade. I shall do my part to bring my gaming brothers a small step closer to Castlevania glory.

I want this game, and this game will be enjoyed greatly. There's no doubt about it. However, a large part of me can't help but be pissed that it's all just re-cycled assets from Castlevania's I've played a dozen times, totaled up. I'm really hungry for a brand new, big-bad Castlevania on download.

Sony and Nintendo fanboys make me laugh. Well, fanboys in general make me laugh.

This looks great. Very very excited!

Why the hell, is castlevania, a game that has been on a nintendo system MULTIPLE times(and some playstation) on the XBOX? This game looks fun, but us nintendo/playstation(again systems it was on before/FIRST), get to sit here in the dark.

I'm truly looking forward to this...I hope my mind is playing tricks on me but wasn't Soma one of the characters featured on the Arcade LIVE picture? If so...its a bout time!

Soma (without extreme spoilers) was and will always be the COOLEST character of the new age Castlevania series. I'm literally gonna try and convince some of my friends to get this asap...it's gonna be nice to go through this game with friends.

So far I been impress with the summer of download games from xbox live. Limbo and Deathspank have been awesome. Now we get to play some a new Castlevania game. I love playing the castlevania games on the ds and other consoles. Now they brought all the favorite characters into one game. I can't wait to try it out with some friends. My only complaint is, it's coming on Wednesday, it use to be all new acrade games came out on Tuesday. Once again Microsoft kicks us where it hurts.

Have fun making 1/3 the money you could have made(HAHA!) if you would have released it on more than one system... PSN? WII ware? and isnt wii a good platformer console and arent they dieing for a 4 out of 5 title? And wasnt Castlvania originally a Nintendo game? Couldnt care less about games I cant play. ITS TOO LATE TO BUY AN XBOX! unless yer 7. PS3 or death!
