Ubisoft Aiming High With New Toronto Studio

Ubisoft managing director Rob Cooper says the company is openly embracing 3D technology. According to Cooper, most of Ubisoft's upcoming triple-A games will feature 3D for those rare, early adopters who have the set-up (and the dorky glasses.)

“I do believe that Avatar allowed us just a little bit of advantage in terms of experience with how this market will work,” Cooper said. “We are working to offer the possibility of 3D on most of our upcoming triple-A titles, as we’d like to ensure that we are there for those consumers that begin putting new 3D enabled televisions in their homes.”

Ubisoft, whose movie tie-in game Avatar was (arguably) the first, big-budget 3D game, is developing games in these series: Assassin’s Creed, Driver, Ghost Recon, HAWX, Prince of Persia and others.

3D is just a massive waste to me. I don't see why we should first go out, buy a new 3D Tv, and have to wear those annoying glasses, which I would have to wear over MY OWN glasses, then the game prices would probably be raised up because sense it's 3D it's suppoused to be a "better experience". I don't want to play video games in 3D, or with motion censors, I don't play games to jump up and wave a controller around, I want to sit down and use a NORMAL controller, without the screen jumping out at me. And on a side note, Kinect just seems like a repackaged Xbox 360 version of the Wii. And I hate the Wii. If most games start having to be 3D/Motion Censors, I will go back to old school gaming.

I hate 3D. I hate you UbiSoft, and your 3d, and your DRM. I still like your games a lot though...

To be fair, HD-DVD's quality was the same as Blu-Ray and cheaper both player wise and for the discs. It just got buried by Sony handing everybody money to go Blu-Ray. Just my two cents.

3D gaming is NOT going to catch on with the hardcore fanbase until it goes glassless, end of story. Doesn't matter how many Publishers try to push onto the masses, we all JUST bought into the LED phase, not going out to shell another 2 grand for a TV that will be useless and stupid looking when glasses aren't needed in another year or 2 max.

This is far too similar to the HD-DVD debacle...and we all know how THAT panned out.

Performing a leap of faith in Assassin's Creed in 3D would be pretty awesome. I tried Killzone and Gran Turismo in 3D and it was really cool. It made Killzone more of a challenge, because the Helghast that were farther away really seamed like they were farther away, and the FPS view in GT5 was awesome.

They're telling us 3d is "the next big thing" because they want us to go out and buy new tvs and spend more for movies and possibly video games. I hate it when companies try to tell people what's "the next big thing." They don't decide. We decide. They can talk it up and tell us how great everything is in 3d, but if we don't want it, then it's not "the next big thing." They want it to be but that's only because they want everyone to go out and buy new tvs.

"Because 80% of gamers in America DON'T WANT 3-D"

What percentage of gamers do you think have even SEEN 3-D in a game? Sure, lots of folks have made it to the demo station at their local Best Buy, but its different in a game. And its good. It actually does add something to the game in the opinions of most people who have actually tried it. And if you don't want to use it, don't.

The real issue here is most people don't understand the technology and what it actually takes to pull off. From a game standpoint, its just a post-process effect, like a filter. It may degrade the FPS or resolution a bit, but it doesn't change the CONTENT of the game. A good game in 3D is still a good game.

Makes me puke all over the back of some stranger. Slap on those 3-D glasses. Why? Because 80% of gamers in America DON'T WANT 3-D.

So the next step in video gaming is to make there games focus on what the Majority of people DO NOT WANT!!!!

    Halo Reach in 3-D
Gears of war 3 in 3-D
    Street fighter x Tekken 3D
    MvC3 3D

If these games go 3-D I am going to run out to the store and buy a new 3000 dollar TV with my new stimulus check I get from the dark lord OBAMA. Because I have been out of work for 2 years living off the state.

My children don't need food, we need another tv?????????

    @shipe

I think people are split on 3D, some hate it some love it. The gaming companies and tv companies are the ones telling everyone that it is what they want.
