E3 2010 Preview: SOCOM 4

Zipper Interactive have confirmed that their PlayStation Move-supported shooter SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs has been delayed, and will now be released in 2011.

“While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year,” Zipper senior community manager Jeremy Dunham explained on the game’s official site, ”we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that.”

It will be interesting to see if the delay affects Move sales later this year, since Sony has positioned SOCOM 4 as their “hardcore” Move title. Then again, making sure the game is as polished as possible, especially in the Move department, is obviously top priority, and I’m glad Zipper has been given the time they need to make that happen.

I will be buying a ps3 next week, and this was one of the games i was planning on getting this year. PS3 will have a killer lineup of exclusives next year, killone 3, socom 4 and a possible resistance 3. Exactly why i am finally getting a ps3 so i can buy multiplatform releases for my 360 because the ps3 has stronger exclusives, and because I've always owned sony products

This delay in fact has everything to do With Medal of Honor and Black Ops releasing in the fall.

Which is a shame really, I mean with CoD releasing yearly and then every other FPS wanting to compete with it, I'm wondering if the fall season is going to be forever gone (or however long it remains popular) to the generic FPS with nothing but the brand name to keep it's reputation going. With every other developer getting intimidated out of releasing their game within the same window.

The Fall use to be big, but if this trend continues, the Fall Season will just fall back into a cliche of tired FPS's and repetitive predictable delays of much more anticipated titles. I won't expect a Fall Release of the Last Guardian next year, nor Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Well if its in the hands of the makers of MAG thee greatest uncontested FPS EVER! MADE! with thee most stellar mind blowing graphics and sound design.

MAG currently has more people playing then MW2 and makes BFBC2 look like a childs game

This makes total sense for SOCOM and Sony

    October 12th: Medal of Honor
    November 9th: Black Ops.

Give it time, let people get these two games out of their systems and make sure you have a good product come out and try to take over the market. No one would buy this game if they could get Black Ops od MoH instead.

that good that they are taking the time to properly fix bugs and thing like that stuff.
I think that the Move could have used one new hardcore game at its launch though.
As long as its not a Confrontation again, its ok by me

I would be surprised if anyone puts some serious SOCOM time in with the Move.

This won't be another Confrontation, guaranteed, since it's Zipper that's making it (Confrontation was made by Slant 6).

But yes, Sony has learned their lesson with SOCOM because Confrontation was rushed to market with tons of bugs and issues and it hurt the SOCOM brand.

SOCOM 4 is also a much bigger undertaking for the developers then Confrontation, since SOCOM 4 also has a full-blown campaign, in addition to the multi-player.

I say bravo to Zipper for being determined to not rush the game to market!

Exactly. We don't want another SOCOM Confrontation, so please delay it as long as needed.

This game should have come out when the PS3 came out, not 10 years later. I'm not a big Sony fan but hopefully this game works out for them.

They should have at least one hardcore move game at launch. When does that sorcery game come out? That looked pretty cool.

Im so scared this is going to be another "Confrontation", the Socom name is going to die if that happens.
