Lost Vikings Appear In StarCraft 2

StarCraft II

If you've been playing through StarCraft 2's campaign mode as opposed to taking on real-life, head-to-head challengers online, you may have noticed an in-game arcade game called Lost Vikings in protagonist Jim Raynor's spaceship.  And if you're really down with the history of Blizzard, you know that The Lost Vikings was the name of the company's very first game.

SNES side-scrolling puzzle/action game The Lost Vikings came out in 1992, and in it you can see the seeds of future great Blizzard properties like Warcraft and World of Warcraft -- mainly, squatty guys with beards. See?

Sadly, Starcraft 2's Lost Vikings is not a direct port of the original game. Instead, it's a vertical scrolling space shooter arcade game. I get that the SNES The Lost Vikings wouldn't fit in with the sci-fi design in StarCraft 2, but still,  it would have been cool. Oh, well. The new Lost Vikings is pretty cool too. See?

I remember Lost Vikings on the SNES. Actually still go back and play it on occasion. Its a fun puzzle game. They should have ported in the original game with the Protoss as the alien race that captures them.

They should put a working version of rock n' roll racing in the next installment.

A dancing Night Elf is also in the Cantina. The Lost Vikings game is pretty fun to play :).

I played the hell out of The Lost Vikings. I loved that game. Weird crossover for Starcraft though.

maybe making that mini game is what took 12 years. And that definitely is a missed oppertunity. when i got to the part in the game where i saw the arcade machine called the lost viking, blizzard instantly went up a spot in my mind, thinking they had indeed ported the game. that would have been amazing.

blizzards such a Bynomial ITCH for setting up this review embargo; this is censorshp seeing how they game is out...

*chuckle* it looks pretty cool, actually. Reminds me of Popcap, in a way. Like a really good flash game with really good graphics. (for a flash game, anyway. Which this isn't. Neither is Popcap, I think.)

The reference to the company's beginnings is cool, too!
