Sony officially announced today that the PlayStation 3 has become the first of the Big Three consoles to sport the latest version of Netflix’s streaming application, as well the first console to receive the much requested search functionality for Netflix.
“We are thrilled to be the first in the marketplace to have Netflix search capability,” said SCEA senior vice president Phil Rosenberg in the official announcement. “Search is fundamental to choosing movies and TV shows and we’re proud to be the only gaming system supporting the Netflix Continuous Improvement Architecture, which makes Netflix application improvements instantly available to the installed base of Netflix users on the PS3 system.”
PS3 owners still need to use a Blu-ray disc to access Netflix steaming, which is hardly convenient, but Sony said that it plans to release a "native application" for Netflix within the next few months.
Anyone tested out the new search feature? Has it made your life exponentially less stressful?

Is G4 ever going to fix their wonky profanity filter? It's flagging me for absolutely no reason. Very irritating.

I have had the search feature from the beginning but my friend who got his disk with his PS3 slim didn't have it.I wonder why some disks came with it and others didn't.That was the whole reason I was using the PS3 version over the Xbox 360 version.

Putting a disc in my launch model PS3 is much more "convenient" than rushing my Xbox to Microbrain every 6 months because of hardware failure..
I guess Jake wrote this before his morning coffee..
This "condesending" B.S. is getting old 4G.. or G4.. or who ever the highest bidder is.. Total lack of integrity...

I'm downloading the update now! I'll let you know how it turns out in three weeks or so.

I thought PS3 was for gaming?

why does g4 always make things seem worse than it is? how is the netflix disc inconvenient at all?? and how was it stressful in the first place???

ive had the search option on my ps3 since last weekend and i have to say it puts to rest my biggest problem with netflix so far! the ps3 version is really limited, now with the search feature you can browse more content and actually add dvds to your queue from your ps3.

I'm sorry....it's time we get an app and not use the frakking disk anymore.
Notafanboythatiknow
I was scrolling through the sideways menu and found the search function. I do not know how much I will use it, but it's convenient, especially if you happen to not have a computer (for some reason) to queue.

that's pretty sweet, guess it makes up for having to wait for the service in the first place, no announcement for xbox searching for us dual console owners? (I like the look and navigation of netflix on xbox the best)

I have a netflix account and I got the blu-ray disk for streaming free movies on the PS3. It's awesome!!!. Now theres gonna be an app? Im so glad this will be disk free later this year

Rofl. It's just a search bar. Don't force this in as a weapon for the console wars. Give it a rest everyone.

Good job Sony on getting this feature. XBOX dropped the ball on this one, and makes me wonder how they couldn't have added this support sooner. Let me guess, they are still integrating it "into the XBOX LIVE experience."

Is the PS3 version 'free' or do you have to buy the new 'pay for' network? Netflix won't work if you have just silver access.

This is horsecrap. Netflix came out on the Xbox first and doesn't have this feature and the fact that I can't play Netflix on Linux (without using the Virtual Box) because you have to have Silverlight tech that only works on Windows totally blows.
Freekman2626
Yes, I used it today and it helped a lot. It was a nice surprise seeing it there.
