One of the biggest moments of Comic-Con 2010 for me was the revelation that Namco and Capcom are going head to head in the form of two separate crossover dream video games: Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter.
At Capcom's panel, the company said the release of their game was "Not for a while," and according to Japanese gaming bible Famitsu, that means about two years... so put your waiting shoes on.
Famitsu spoke to Yoshinori Ono, the genius behind Street Fighter, and he said the target is to release the game two years after its announcement. We will learn more at next year's Captivate Conference.
Given that the game had only been in development for about a month, the gameplay shown at Comic-Con was very polished and impressive, but probably doesn't represent a true picture of what the game will look like when it is finally released. Even basic details have yet to be decided upon. Ono says he's thinking of making the game 2 on 2, and adding an "assist" feature swiped from the iPhone version of Street Fighter 4.
Both games are being developed completely separately, with no cross-team input between Namco and Capcom, even the character models for each game are going to be done without input from the other team.
While you wait, check out this just-released teaser trailer:

Since Dan is confirmed, I'm probably gonna buy. Not really a fan of Tekken, but I do think it's gonna be fun to play as animals, heh.

Bummer. Well for a blockbuster game we do have to wait.

This is gonna be an awesome game the trailer sux though.

At least its only two years instead of the 11 years for MVC 3 or the 12 between street fighter 3 and 4, and besides i would rather wait two years for a well polished game than one year for a rushed one

This should be no surprise. It has been talked about for close to a year and a half. The game development is 2 months in as of now. The reason they give suck a far out release date is to avoid a delay or pushback.
I think that both companies don't want to talk about time constraints that hampered there ability to make a complete game.
I also think there is more going on behind the scene than we know about. MvC3, SSF4, Darkstalkers??, Tokyo game show is coming up soon. There will be more said in the future.
2 years is a long time to wait, but if your playing the other fighting games out there time will fly by. SSF4, Blaze Bluex2, KOF13x2, MvC3, Mortal Kombat, there will be plenty to do for a long time. EVO should grow leaps and bounds.

me being primarily a tekken fan I'm wondering how namco is going to give ryu 100+ moves that arent fireballs

I agree with Javis... Concern quickly replaced pure glee after I saw the trailer. I have a feeling one will have awesome graphics but shtty game play and the vice versa for the other.

It's weird considering that this is pretty much 2 years into development.
I just hope I get to see Ken go up against Devil Jin.

as a huge fan of both of these amazing fighting games, i'm actually a little worried about control schemes/supers/technicals/etc. Tekken & SF both have such unique playing styles that it makes me curious to see what will actually make the crossover and what won't. In the end i'll still be buying it of course :)
