Nintendo is very proud of itself. The multinational gaming corporation has sold over 30 million Wii consoles, and that's just in the United States. According to Nintendo, this establishes Wii as the fastest-selling console in the history of video games, as it reached the 30 million-sold milestone 15 months faster than the next best-selling console.
Say what you will about Nintendo's commitment to hardcore gaming, it's pretty much undeniable that Nintendo has expanded the entire market of games to previously un-gamed segments of the population.
“More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing in a statement. “This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.”

Congrats N. no matter what ppl say all systems have bad games, even the mighty ps2. no system had more terible games than the ps2 and it sold big, yet i heard no one bashing it. The Wii is Great, so is the xbox and ps3 in their own ways. the Wii is just Greater this Round

I'm sorry to say my Wii is collecting dust i had fun with it but it's just lacks the games of real quality bar mario galaxy and super smash bro's, in fact the last time i used it was to play SSB:B and that was only when i have 4 people around at mine as a multiplayer console (locally) it's alot of fun but when it comes to a singleplayer experiance i'd rather do my gaming on my ps3 or pc.
and before people start saying zelda is amazing and all that i'm sorry it just aint my cup of tea
on the other hand tho Nintendo has proved that you can sell consoles to non gamers i couldn't even begin to count how many people i know that have them that wouldn't usually even consider a console as a household item (granted i don't see the console out so much these days)! 70 million doesn't suprise me and congratulations to them. Maybe with the dedicated third party support it needs it would be my main gaming hub.

Well the Wii's online sucks, that's a fact. But it's good to have games that actually make a good single player campaign instead of trying to fall back on multiplayer. Like COD and Halo.

Aw man the things ppl get worked up on. We get it Wii's limited just like each console. Wii brought something new to the field even if some ppl think its a "one trick pony" I still have to agree with Big Burrito its being copied by PS3 and Xbox. It's fun for everyone, old ppl, young ppl, drunk ppl, and high ppl. You cant tell me playing Wii sports with someone who's drunk isn't fun. You can't so dont try. And the Wii has brought a level of physical activity to video games besides throwing controllers and stomping in angry fits. I have seen the good it does to some fellow soldiers @ walter reed in terms of physical therapy. so the applications are more than one. I say congrats Nintendo! I've never made a console and im a horrible salesman so good for you.

The reason people don't like the Wii; lack of third party support, mostly bloody shooters, lack of HD, lack of DLC, I might be wrong about that one, and the biggest reason they're to pig headed after years of saying how much they hate it that they won't even give the good games a chance. Conduit 2, lost in shadow, and epic mickey are all looking to be must haves.

The only reason why I am pissed about the Wii fad is because every greedy third-party out there will create a game that will act and behave like (insert strong expletive word here), now not just on the Wii (if there already has been, there will be more, regardless of the console). We Wii gamers have had enough of the shovelware; there is no need to pass it on.

Yes, the Wii is officially the console war winner. If a console with inferior graphics and horsepower than the competition can cause the competition to copy the philosophy of targeting casual gamers (as with PSMove and Kinect), then the Wii truly made an impact in the industry.

People only bash on the Wii because it makes them feel cool for a few minutes until they remember how much of a loser they are. The Wii is what it is something fun to play with friends and family and is cheap enough to be able to buy another gaming console with better graphics to play a more hardcore game on. I own a 360 and a Wii and enjoy both. I do lean a lot more towards the 360 in playing time but I have loads of fun playing Wii games with my daughter. Fanboys want to act like there is only enough room for one console its almost like rednecks arguing over a Ford or Chevy.

Xbox and PS3 fanboys, you have to thank Nintendo for expanding the market, because the way Sony and Microsoft were handling things, by the next console cycle the cheapest console would probably cost abot 1,200 dollars and the games over 100 dollars each. Nintendo just showed them that there's more to it than HD and pretty graphics... Fun is always more important in a game. If you can't have fun with a game because it's not HD or buckets of blood are not pouring through your 3D, 60 inches, Super Plasma TVs then you just don't get it. Right now, Nintendo is the gateway drug of new videogamers, young or old, and no doubt thanks to Nintendo those gamers will buy 360's and PS3s too. Think about that.

Yeah dummass. It's not the Wii's fault that third party titles fail most of the time, it's the developers fault that they dont make the game with time and perfection, or is it just coincidence that every game Nintendo publishes is a AAA title. Thats why NSMBW and other wii titles are always on the top 10 sales of the month, cause people actually play with their wiis and buy wiis. If not then how come the ps3 or xbox havent surpassed wii unit sales?

i've had every nintendo system from the normal (classic) nintendo to the wii and i've supported them all. That being said i bought a ps3 about 4 months ago lol and i've probably played it more than my wii and gamecube combined which is sad.
However Nintendo has always aimed to a general audience and the wii just magnified that, they did what any good business does, find a niche separate from your competitors etc etc. but i applaud their success since they have expanded the market from just your regular gamer to just about everyone else.
So congrats Nintendo for all the success and hope you have much more in the future. ( still waiting for pikmin 3 btw lol)

I have a Wii and it's great that they have sold so many systems.
But "number of systems sold" does not equal "great games to play". I have very few games and don't plan on buying more at least for the next two years. Having more fun with the 360, and even the ps3 that I have gets more play.
Love Sports Resort, but Zelda is ruined, I'm tired of waiting of Pilotwings64 to come to VC, piles of shovelware (not a real problem since I don't buy those), and....
Ah forget it.

Not calling it legit, but the only reason that people bash on it is cause of the graphics, if it had god graphics no one would bash on it. The xbox only has gears of war, halo, and 2 or 3 other titles that are exclusive on xbox and they keep getting sequels that are basically the same thing over and over again. Halo, halo 2, halo 3, halo wars, halo reach, all are the same thing but with different levels. Another example is Move, people are saying its gonna be better than the Wii cause its in HD. And Kinect, so far i seen is Kinectimals, Dance Party or whatever, Kinect Sports, ooooh yeah kinect is very hardcore.

Congrats to Nintendo because i definately think the console war in general is over because they sold to casual gamers that before the wii hadn't owned a console which largely exposed people to video games. I personally don't think the wii is the best but it got people to buy it. The numbers don't lie. I think the Hardcore console war is not over and with the E3 lineup for nintendo they just joined that war. But this could be beneficial to all games because of how well they introduced people to video games, and it is alot less referred to as a "kids" thing and it could produce better sales for all consoles.
