Comic-Con 2010: Sucker Punch Scraps Cole McGrath's Look for Infamous 2

Never underestimate the power of fan backlash. On the heels of inFamous 2's strong showing at E3 but an outcry regarding a few changes to the game's hero, Sucker Punch announced prior to its Comic-Con panel (which I picked up via IGN) that it is jettisoning the initial character art style for the sequel -- which featured Cole McGrath sporting hair and some tattoos -- in favor of returning to Cole's traditional look from the first game. How convenient that the news dovetails with two new trailers from Sony, eh?

I liked the new Cole McGrath. The old one seemed a little stale. Besides, realistically, do you guys think he's just gonna look like hell for the rest of his life? As soon as I would figure out how to get down to New Marais, after the Beast guy tears Empire City apart, I'd try for at least a disguise or something... If Sucker Punch is looking to rebuild Cole McGrath, but keep him the same, I'd suggest they get the old voice actor and actually find a middle-ground between the old and the new.

why don't they just add the first model and let you choose at the beginning of the game which one you would like to play as that way everyone wins and no one can complain.

Now that they have revealed both sides to him and gamers can't seem to agree on which should be his look, I believe they should keep both and make the old Cole his dark side and the new one his good side allowing gamers choices to effect the character's apperarance.

I thought the bald and the bad-ass look was perfect. I'm glad they're changing it back.

Yes, I hated how cole looked with hair. As long as that remains the same though, I don't care what they do with him.

while they're bringing the old look back, they should at least bring back the original voice actor too.

Shoulda' just kept the new look and call it a "reboot" like they do in the movies.

Really though, they were stuck either way. Completely change the character or keep something boring and stale.

Is it just me or does anyone else think they didn't really answer the question on every inFAMOUS gamer's mind: WHY the drastic change????

Personally, I could careless. As long as it's another hit as the previous, with new content and new moves and the like, I'm satisfied. Another win for Sony ^_^

I think the same, new actor is there, based on the VO. I bet they didn't really go back to the old motion captured character, because this new guy they hired is a mo-cap pro. They probably just got rid of the hair and maybe aged him a little, just to appease the people who liked the old look.

I hear they are redoing him to be somewhat in the middle. I was actually starting to grow on the new Cole after watching the gameplay trailer a few times. I think they need to keep the hair, lose the tattoos, and get a new change of clothing and your good to go.

Was I the only person who liked the new look. One of the things that always bothered me about the first inFamous was that Cole really didn't have a personality. He didn't seem to care about anything whether you were good or evil. The new look to me gave him life and emotion that I felt was so lacking in the previous title

I dont know if I should be happy or sad about them scrapping the new look. At first I wasnt to sure about it because he looked younger in the second game than in the first. but at this point I kinda liked the look, hope they dont just take the old model though and throw that into the new game, at least update his close, and dont change Zeke, he looks pretty good.
