Tonight at Capcom's 2010 Comic-Con panel, Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune hinted that 2010 was going to be a good year for Mega Man fans.
In addition to talking about the already announced Mega Man Universe, Inafune told the audience that he was going to let them in on something he hadn't even told the press. Inafune went on, very vaguely, to say that this would be a "big year" for Mega Man and that yet another huge announcement was coming soon. When pressed by the audience, the only thing Inafune would say about the upcoming announcement was that it was something Mega Man fans had been requesting for years.
What do you think Mega Man fans have been yearing for? What do you think the big announcement will be?

Wow. Glad to see more people who are as rabid about bringing MegaMan home as I am! Seriously, the only cliffhanger ending that made me smash the controller as hard as MML2 was Halo 2, but at least Halo 3 gave me some satisfaction.
Seriously though, with all the games capcom has been putting out recently (New-and-improved RE titles, Dead Rising, etc.), I can't imagine they would continue waiting to release MML3. I remember reading in an interview several years ago, Inafune said that he didn't want to deliver a sub-par MML3 to such a faithful fanbase. Sorta in the same vein as James Cameron not wanting to make Avatar until the tech was improved enough to make the film he envisioned, Capcom was (or still is, possibly) waiting until they could bring their true vision to fruition.

Well, I got off the phone with a friend of mine who has 18 years of Mega Man experience. He has played all the classic series, x series, a little battle network, and legends.
He has a few theories:
1. Mega Man Legends 3 because of the feedback input from fans
2. X9 because... it's been a while since X8 so why not.
and the not likely but interesting 3. The bridge story game between the classic series and the X series.
I personally think the first 2 are more likely, especially the first. However, it would be interesting to see the X series continue or to actually play the bridge story between two separate Mega Man series.

And here I was thinking they would finally reveal the fate of the original Mega Man, but it appears that most people want Mega Man Legends 3.

I'm pretty sure they are gonna revamp the whole look of Mega Man, and finally make a NextGen game. MML3 would probably be the next game, and big announcement.

I really just want them to make a 2.5D Mega Man puzzler/platformer re-boot, inspired by recent XBLA games, Shadow Complex, Braid, etc. Not visually of course, but in terms of Shadow's use of upgrades and level progression, it just makes sense to do in the Mega Man universe. Also, Capcom really needs to use the various power upgrades for more than just combat, but puzzle solving and collecting as well. Additionally, make it so that there is more than one way to progress through game.

I think is more details on Mega Man Universe, maybe just like the teaser showed the ability to have and copy the moves from other Capcom stars
or the announcement of Mega Man X9 (my money is in here)

There's been rumors about a MegaMan MMO for awhile now, that would probably go best with the "good year for Mega Man fans" quote.
Plus with Universe they already have a console game covered, don't see why they'd release more than one for the consoles within the same year. If the game is that short and easy to make, would it even be worth it?
So my money is on the MMO.

I think it's pretty clear that whatever Mega Man Universe turns into, it's heavily inspired by Super Mario Crossover.
