Electronic Arts announced today during their studio showcase the first official details about Darkspore, an action-RPG inspired by Will Wright’s evolution simulator Spore.

Similar to EA’s recently released downloadable title DeathSpank, Darkspore takes a lot of inspiration from Diablo.The sci-fi RPG puts a heavy emphasis on loot collection and is built primarily around co-op gameplay. Each player controls a squad of three characters that can be swapped between freely. Also, each character possess unique abilities, and those abilities can also be shared among squadmates.
 
The game will also encourage replayability throughout, and thanks to the game’s AI director, encounters will be dynamic and driven by how you play. EA is hosting a panel at Comic-Con 2010 on Saturday, so expect to see plenty more details about Darkspore then. While you wait check out the teaser trailer for Darkspore.
