Microsoft's annual Summer of Arcade is firing up this week with Limbo, a dark and subversive platformer from Danish developers Playdead. The annual promotion is a time when some of the year's best downloadable titles hit consoles, and from Jake Gaskill's review, it looks like we've already got a frontrunner for best digital game of 2010 so far. Here's a taste:
"...Limbo is a top to bottom masterpiece. The last time I was this enthralled with a game world and a narrative (despite the fact that there is absolutely no explanation whatsoever about who the kid is, what happened to him, if he’s actually in “limbo” in the traditional sense, etc.) was BioShock, one of my favorite games of all time. It grabs hold of you at the title screen, and doesn’t let you go until after the credits roll."
Limbo hits Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday. Read Jake's review to find out more about what makes it tick.

"Limbo" was fun, albeit extremely frustrating at times. I must, however, address something that has consistently irked me about 'games journalism' or whatever people may desire to call it. I ALWAYS have the sense, and rightfully so, that what I'm reading is more akin to a consumer report, like a 3rd party PR extension, than anything of actual critical value.
I'm frankly bored with use of slicko one to two catch-adjectives and some stand out dreadfully more so than others. The word 'dark' is near the very top of the list. First, people throw it around as though A) it actually means something and B) it is a worthwhile thematic pursuit. The truth is that being 'dark' is not equivalent to being mature or deep.
As for 'subversive', I do not often see that word used to describe a thing, and only in the context of great literary and artistic works. And yet, here it has been raped and abused for the sake of selling a thing. I've never seen a game that even dabble lightly in subversion and "Limbo" is no exception. It is fun and imaginative and suspenseful, but never would I dare say subversive.
Now, I'll pass on Jake's review because I know what I need to about "Limbo", but as for the quote, I leave by noting that rollercoasters, too, grip us and don't let go until the end, but we don't prize that as a master feat.

Its an interesting game but the price is a bit too high for a game that is fairly short. I mean if the demo which is about 5 chapters long took about 12 minutes. How long would the remaining chapters take.
My advice is to wait for the price to drop then pick it up.

I waited for winterbottoms price to go down and I probably would do the same for these summer of arcade games also. Especially if it takes a couple days to beat the game 15 is just not the price im looking at paying. I would pay $ 10. if not I'll just wait 6 months to a year before i buy these games.

I am pretty excited about this game. From all of the videos and articles Ive seen its shaping out to be a big hit. Maybe its about time I finally go out and buy a 360.

These Flashback/Out of this world/Abes Oddysee/Heart of Darkness type games absolute deserve a resurgence as they were truly the first theatrical, fully submersible games ever.
