Codemasters confirmed today that Bodycount creative director Stuart Black will be leaving the development team once the game is completed later this year.
As Eurogamer reports, Codemaster Guildford studio manager Adrian Bolton said that Stuart “has decided to move on after three years with us,” and that he will “see out his design role until October…and will continue to work with the talented development team that will take the game through to completion.”
When I spoke with Black prior to E3 about Bodycount, he was positively giddy about what he and his team were doing with the game, and the game is so clearly a passion project for him that it would be surprising if there was something deep and dark about his departure. Eurogamer is under the impression that it was related to "post-E3 fallout."
Whatever the reason, it will be interesting to see where Black ends up next, and if Bodycount can live up to Black’s high expectations. After all, a high-octane shooter inspired by Lady Gaga and J.J. Abrams isn't exactly a tried and true formula. Guess we'll find out when the game ships early next year.
