If you're feeling a bit of deja vu, that's because the NPD Group has just released sales figures for June and both Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 have topped the sales charts once again. And for once, Nintendo isn't leading the console sales with Wii -- in June, it's Xbox 360.
Video Game Software Sales, June 2010
- 360 -- Red Dead Redemption, Take-Two Interactive, 582,900
- Wii -- Super Mario Galaxy 2, Nintendo of America, 548,400
- PS3 -- Red Dead Redemption, Take-Two Interactive, 380,300
- Wii -- New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Nintendo of America, 200,900
- Wii -- Just Dance, Ubisoft, 174,800
- Wii -- Wii Fit Plus w/ Balance Board, Nintendo of America, N/A
- DS -- Toy Story 3, Disney Interactive Studios, N/A
- 360 -- UFC 2010: Undisputed, THQ, N/A
- Wii -- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Warner Bros. Interactive, N/A
- PS3 -- UFC 2010: Undisputed, THQ, N/A
Video Game Hardware Sales, June 2010
- DS -- 510,700
- Xbox 360 -- 451,700
- Wii -- 422,500
- PlayStation 3 -- 304,800
- PSP -- 121,000
Hold your applause, however. Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 continue to sell well, but NPD Group analyst Anita Frazier warns the industry continues to experience slow sales.
"Unfortunately, the industry realized a decline versus the same time period last year," said Frazier in prepared remarks released with the numbers, "driven by decreases in sales of portable hardware and console and portable software. A bright spot was sales of console hardware, which increased 35% in unit sales over last June, driven by significant increases in Xbox 360 and PS3 sales."
The bright spots were in hardware sales, with Microsoft experiencing its second best non-holiday month of hardware sales, bolstered by the release of the re-designed Xbox 360. June also marks the 11th month in-a-row were Sony has seen year-over-year sales increases for PlayStation 3.

In the fall, it's going to be Halo: Reach & Call of Duty: Black Ops leading the charge

Im calling it right now, third quarter; Halo: Reach is going be thee record setting game blowing CoD: MW2 out of the water. Also, Xbox360 sales go up due to Halo: Reach... and yes... im a Halo fanboy...

Who are all these people with a DS? I've never even seen one in the wild.
hoof_hearted4
i meant to say "and yet* the DS crushes all the platforms"
hoof_hearted4
its funny how there are always fanboy wars between ps3 and xbox (yes im a ps3 fanboy who is sad to see ps3 second to last in sales, o well) and yes the DS crushes all the platforms haha.

Definitely the new 360. I wonder how much of those sales are from gamestop's trade in the old 360 for extra towards a new slim model.

Looking at the 5 and 6 spots, if dance and exercise game do well this could be big for Kinect this holiday. I expect Ubisoft's exercise game and Harmonix's Dance Central to do very well.
The question will be do moms who exercise and dancing Tweens know that Kinect is coming? I expect Kinects to sell out big time if the word gets out there.

I bet the Xbox 360 will be #1 for july...NCAA Football 11. Then next month, Xbox 360 Madden 11.

I'm with the rest of you. I'm not surprised one bit that the 360 overtook the Wii this month. Next month? Probably the Wii again...maybe. But probably.
darkheart709
Not really a surprise that the 360 came out on top this month considering the demand for the xbox slim. The slim should do well to keep 360 sells up till the holidays come around which isn't that too far off.

NIce to see hardware sales doing well this month

This is bull, Activation should of put more marketing behind Transformers. It is a great game that deserved more attention.

hey wii isnt first for once but still a nintendo product they must be rolling out dollar bills there with just the wii and ds
Spyro_Soul95
Actually Nintendo is still first in the charts, but nice to see other consoles get more sales, too bad it might not be foreever and this might be the only time the xbox is above the wii in sales.
hamthepimp
Too bad about Transformers not selling well. It was an excellent game. Hopefully it made a strong enough showing to warrant a sequel.

Smart move Microsoft by introducing the new 360 and pumping up your sales. Plus lowering the price on all the versions. Sony take a page out of their book, either drop your price or offer more at the same price point.

*these, lol sorry for spelling

wow finally wii is not in the top. Congratulations 360!!. now hoping the ps3 catches up, we need more competition between this two.

Wow, PSP sales are up 100% from last month! Still nothing close to DS but still, I wonder if the new ad campaign had anything to do with that.
