Microsoft has decided to drop interactive game show 1 vs. 100 from Xbox Live. The free trivia contest ran for two "seasons," and attracted thousands of players. According to Microsoft, over 114,000 gamers competed in the show at once during the beta session, winning the game a Guinness World Record.
Here's M'soft's official statement:
"When we started on this journey, we knew we were creating an entirely new genre of entertainment that would be a continually evolving concept," said Dave McCarthy, General Manager, Microsoft Game Studios.
"We're very proud of the '1 vs 100' team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we've learned to future programming."
I'm pretty bummed, because I thought 1 Vs. 100 would be a sure-fire hit, and it was also the only online game in which I consistently and completely destroyed all competitors. On the negative side, the "time-sink" factor of 1 Vs. 100 was pretty considerable -- I'd often look up and realize 2 hours had gone by just like that. How about you guys? Any 1 vs. 100 players out there?
