The buzz so far on Call of Duty: Black Ops is surprisingly strong. I didn't get around to playing Call of Duty: World at War, but I won't be missing out on Treyarch's return to the franchise. Following news that Black Ops pre-orders may be outpacing Modern Warfare 2's, a number of readers -- the very people who are helping determine these numbers -- chimed in about their thoughts on Black Ops so far. NetNapoleon wasn't as convinced about the game as some others.
This will be a wait and see for me. After being disappointed by the last couple of Call of Duty's made by Treyarch they will have to prove themselves before I lay down the $60 that could go to another good game.

i will be getting this the day it comes out. i actually thought WaW was better than MW gameplay wise. the story wasn't there like in MW, but anyone who says that WaW lacked any detail can just look at the fact that one of the most complained about aspects of the game (the dog pack kill streak) could be countered by using any type of special grenade. I also enjoyed having vehicles to access other than ones controlled by AI that never seemed to be useful for me but amazingly accurate for anyone I played against.

It is simply because of brand. Look at the iphone 4, it is a great device some say the best phone. But still it sold like crazy based on name alone. It did not offer anything new. Call of Duty is similar, just more intense epic action, nothing new. Besides people just crave more of the same and a newer version.

Treyarch will be the good guys as long as they stay true to what they say. IW stabbed every PC gamer in the back with no dedicated servers and basically no anti cheat. Cheating on MW2 PC is soooo bad that people have hacked servers just so they can keep the hackers out. I will be defiantly buying Black ops as long as dedicated servers stay in play.

pre ordered this about month before e3 cuz they were giving out cool poster at gamestop when you preordered. hope they do a $150 edition like mw2 with a sweet collectible.

I thought World at War was a good game well at least the missions that had you playing as a Russian were very well done but besides the mission that had you going threw the trenches with the flame flower the missions that had you playing as an American soldier in the pacific were bad. All in all good multiplayer, Nazi zombies and half of a good campaign made that game well worth its money. From what I have seen from black ops and the fact that Treyarch gets better with every game Im defiantly going to buy black ops any game with a crossbow that shoots arrows with explosives and has shotguns with incendiary fire rounds I got to play they have my money.

Instant buy. Treyarch has done such an awesome job of presenting itself and its games with both W@W and Black Ops.

it looks good, and treyarch is a good dev, but to be honest the only online shooter i'll be playing for the next year or so is reach. I'm not going to start a flame war, CoD is mostly good; but you can't deny that there's a whole lot more variety and longevity with reach. You have so many more intersting game modes in the matchmaking (grifball, infection, rocket race), the custom games are actually worthwhile, forge means that you get unlimited new maps as people make them, fireficght, and the campaign.

Even though Treyarch is not IW, Activision is such a horrible company that I will never support and will never buy games from. $60 PC game? f no. $15 DLC with maps from cod4pc? f no.
I still play cod4 pc since it's still awesome but activision is in my bad list.

Not trying to bash IW, but it doesn't surprise me that Black Ops is doing well so far. MW2 has so many problems in the MP. Not to mention the PC community was stabbed in the back.
I think people are overreacting when they say CoD is dead or that they'll "never buy another CoD" because honestly, CoD was loved before MW2. Now all of a sudden everyone hates it. Just because the latest game was bad doesn't mean the next one will be. Treyarch has been improving a lot over the years. With the exception of the MP40, WaW was a very well balanced game. Not to mention the Campaign and the Zombies were fun as well.
I think Black Ops deserves a chance. If you have been following Treyarch on what they're doing for Black Ops, you would know that so far it has a lot of potential. For example Nukes are gone along with the Marathon/Lightweight/Commando combo. And Scavenger will probably be fixed to where it doesn't replenish explosives. It's not much, but these are good signs.

It is an instant buy for me. Preview looks good, dedicated server PC and it is 2 weeks before thanksgiving holiday, 6 weeks before Christmas.

I hated Treyarch after playing COD3, which IMO was a terrible game, but I gave in when W@W came out. I was really surprised how much I liked W@W, I bought it for zombies but the campaign was fun and challeging and the mp was good. W@W is what changed my opinion on Treyarch and for that I'm giving them another shot, if Black Ops has zombie again.
